Japandroids, the loud duo from Vancouver, have been pretty much missing in action since the end of the extensive world tour for Celebration Rock (2012), their second album. Guitarist Brian King and drummer David Prowse visited over 40 countries in a span of 21 months.
Without hints of any new release, and King moving to Mexico City, things have been quiet on the Japandroids front – until now. The band just announced an international fall tour that will have a stop in Toronto and a four-night residence at The Cobalt in Vancouver.
Is this a warm up for a new release? Let’s cross our fingers. Check out the tour dates below.
10.5 – The Cobalt. Vancouver, BC
10.6 – The Cobalt. Vancouver, BC
10.7 – The Cobalt. Vancouver, BC
10.8 – The Cobalt. Vancouver, BC
10.11 – The Echo. Los Angeles, CA
10.15 – Horseshoe Tavern. Toronto, ON
10.20 – Birthdays. London, UK
10.28 – Knitting Factory. Brooklyn, NY
10.29 – Knitting Factory. Brooklyn, NY
11.25 – Caradura. Mexico City, Mexico
Good morning!
Hello! Numerous, aren’t you… or we, should I say.
Hello! It’s another hot day here. So hot, in fact, that I deliberately let my coffee cool off and added ice cubes, because iced coffee is the only way to go in weather like this.
It’s like Benoit and I just simultaneously burst into the quiet, near empty Basement and talked on top of each other.
…which was followed by an awkward hush…
Hello
I wonder why Japandroids are forsaking a canadian tour?
“oooh, look at us, we’re international now”
I joke. They obviously know where to butter their bread.
garfield/reginula – did you… receive an email?
Good morning. Emma Godmere’s dad is in the new Dan Mangan video, which I will now attempt to embed here:
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAmRs–Xsfw&w=560&h=315%5D
@Tom, I did and I have shared it with our other writers to see what they think. I should have sent you reply to let you know I saw it, sorry
First a Cheetos commercial and now a music vid?
Cool!
Mr. Godmere gets around, I guess. I saw him do a great Fringe play (which Emma stage-managed) in London a couple of years ago. He looked completely different than he does in this video.
I met Emma G. in Regina because she was there on tour with her dad who was doing a Fringe show. I never met him, or saw the show however.
Garf, Ok, I was just scribbling yesterday and (Y)OurBasement call for content popped into mind. Whatever you like.
Good morning:)
Hot. SO hot. Already. Melting. “What a world what a world…”

Hello and Good morning!
Long day of fighting to keep my eyes open at meetings yesterday. How can that be so exhausting(boring)?
It’s going to be warm and stormy later today. Plans for this evening include a Jim Bryson house concert : )
Shonica, I hear you. I find meetings very draining. I’ve been in meetings for the last 2 hours.
Morning all.
lucky, it gets better tomorrow, and best the next day: (if we believe this)

@Tom, Thank you but this meant to be your basement as much as it is mine but this post was already planned for today and I have a playlist for tomorrow but I don’t know of any content planned for Monday
I think meetings should be run by rules that make them efficient — get the stuff done. These do exist. It seems to me most meetings are “run” (they’re not, really) in such a way as to protect everybody’s feelings, etc. They go into endless back-and-forths, and unproductive meanders, etc. And nobody (except one or two people) likes it.
Garfy,
From yesterday, the error message on the CBC music app when the music stops is “ERROR LOADING CBC RADIO 3”
I mean Tuesday, because yesterday was boring meetings day.
I’m trying to decide if I’ve ever been to an exciting meeting.
Still trying…
loweeda, I just read your recent post — in my mind — in the voice of Marvin the Depressed Robot. That ‘improves’ it.
Out.
I know a guy who is pretty much the human embodiment of Marvin the Paranoid Android. He can be quite entertaining if you think of him that way, and he doesn’t mind.
Good morning everyone!
I am listening to ‘The Takeaway’ a public radio show here in the U.S. The show is doing an interview with A Tribe Called Red. Check it out…

Tickets and hotel acquired for The Wet Secrets/BDR at the Drake on 8/20!
Hi Justin!
Good day all! I have a lot of short work weeks this month. Three day work week this week. Tomorrow morning I am off to Winnipeg for Interstellar Rodeo and then drive back on Monday. Four day work week next week and then off to Cypress Hills camping trip. Woot!
I tried posting that about 5 times but it wouldn’t work. I feared it was going to show up 5 times. I eventually opened a new tab and it worked.
Russ,
Nice! Just spent the weekend in Regina seeing The Wet Secrets multiple times at RFF and they are playing this weekend again at Interstellar : )
I caught some of Wet Secrets at RFF but I am looking forward to seeing a full set of them at the Rodeo this weekend.
Darbar,
That happen to me too on Tuesday!
I’ve never seen The Wet Secrets and I really want to! This weekend I may finally get my chance! all those band uniforms!
Their uniforms do look pretty great!

Okay, Thanks Garfy
We hope to surprise them, ssshhhhh…
if you like cleavage and short skirts, you’ll like the wet secrets.
oh and their music is ok too.
Your secret is safe with me.
hmm…I’m not so much a fan of either cleavage or short skirts. I hope I find something to like, regardless.
@Tom, How do you know what I am wearing!?
music?
does anyone here listen to music?
i like music …
i enjoy wet secrets too but music is more my thing.
I’m sure some of you sports folks saw the news John Saunders (sportscaster ESPN) passed away yesterday at the age of 61. He was Tarp King’s defence partner at Ryerson. When he found out yesterday he was a little sad he had not talked to him in years. He made some calls and ended up talking to some of the Rams alumni he played with back then, there were a few John reminiscences.
We talked this morning about how It is so much easier these days to stay in touch with folks.
@justingrady great tribe called red interview! thanks for sharing:)
@loweeda – Ask Lyle (bassist) when his OTHER band’s next record is coming out out out out out.
@Shonica – Along with the sad about the loss is the realization that it could be you. Keeping in touch is so much easier but we still get busy and think we will do it later. Sometimes later is too late. Sorry for Tarp King’s loss.
@Shonnie – They played together??? Bummer. I loved John, what a great announcer he was.
Russ,
Yes
Darbar,
He did mention that too. A bit of a theme around here these days, “We aren’t getting any younger, so let’s just do it.”
That’s why we’re alvvays the oldest folks at all these live music shows.
Speaking of being too old for things, I started a new Minecraft game recently, and wrote down a little to do list of my immediate game priorities:
A few items in I noticed a pattern that may or may not be apparent, depending on how blog comments are formatted. Now I’m in a bit of a jam; whenever I want to add something new to my list I have to find a way to express it in exactly 12 characters, or else it’s just not going to get written down at all.
(oh yay, the formatting worked nicely. for a minute I was afraid that comment might end up being pointless :-/)
Haha Loozrboy!
Your brain has apparently been formatted for Mine Craft now.
@loozerboy so the first item on your to-do list was the dividing line item on a to do list of my parents. the top part of the page was potential baby names and the bottom part of the list was chores for the farm caretaker to do when the not yet named child made their appearance. i had a most unfortunate name for the first six months of my life …
@Morgana: do your parents still call you “shovel horse manure” sometimes?
@loozerboy mostly it just makes a good story. hippy parents who got letters from “the man” saying they had to fill out papers and name their kid. “but what is wrong with just calling her chicken coop?’
That would be a crap name
never heard that one before;)
now we need to know what your nick name was …
all of you! spill …
You already know one of mine, DarBar. My mother tried to get people to call me Darli when I was young but it didn’t stick. Barssie was another one but my that was my brother’s nickname so he wouldn’t allow it.
My parents were very much not hippies but I wished I had been.
@darbar so funny how we want what we don’t have/aren’t.
my kid is desperate to find some First Nations blood in our family …
That must be why I added special on the end of my name because I feel so boringly average in every way. Ha!
You all know my nick name, in fact many of you have used it to get my attention
But at school a few kids would call me Pigsy after the character from this show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zOFAD6e9Bk
I thought your nick name was Candy
Haha! Oh right! And Candy Barss and Monkey Barss.
@garfielduk holy monkey magic! did you watch that show as a kid? i of course did not have a tv, only lp’s
@Morgana, I didn’t watch it but a few kids I went to school with did and thought it was funny to call the fat kid Pigsy
@garfielduk not very thoughtful – both definitions. no originality and mean.
carrot top was one i got but i was/am too feisty to take that sort of thing. come on people, the top of carrots are green!!!
@Morgana, I have a redheaded friend over here and I only call him Ginge when there is another person with the same name (Colin) in the room
My son hated when he got called Ginger.
I am guessing it depends on who it is coming from and how they are using the “nickname”.
on how well it is received.
it matters who is saying it and how for me
Hello all, checking in late. I try to check each day to see what you are up to even if I don’t comment (or always read them)
I pulled out of the Jim Bryson house show tonight because it’s Interstellar weekend and I didn’t want to feel stressed by having too much to do in too little time. As it turns out I’ve got a lot done and I could probably have gone…bah.
Dang TRH. I very much get the too much to do in too little time these days. Things are falling by the wayside in my life.
I am looking forward to the weekend in Winnipeg and a festival I am not working at.
*I could not get this to post again.
