For reasons we don’t fully understand, Saskatchewan’s indie music rarely gets the appreciation it deserves. This unique community has been shaped by their multiple and diverse influences, their will to push the boundaries of their craft and even by their distance to the main industry hubs. The Land of the Living Skies spawns music that easily sits next to the big Canadian names when it comes to artistic merit.
Let’s celebrate the diversity and talent that overruns this prairie province. Soft guitar sounds? Dancefloor-ready tunes? World class shoegaze? These bands have your back. Check out our Saskatchewan playlist below.
What are your favourite Saskatchewan bands? Let us know in the comments.

Hello
Tim Hortons is coming to the UK
@garf wow, I’m surprised! (Probably shouldn’t be…) what do you think about that? I’m guessing you’re looking forward to it personally, but do you think it will be successful?
It’s Burger King’s Tim Hortons, right? Probably some co-locating going on? (Good morning)
Topically: thanks for the playlist @reginula I’ll check it out from the computer (so I can use Old Abe’s Spotify account) later. There are a few bands I’m not familiar with so that’s fun!
G o o d m o r n i n g !
I was commenting too fast.
@Russ, as long as they pick their locations wisely (the end of my street) they should do well. We have had Krispy Kreme stores over here for a few years now and they are still going strong
http://www.krispykreme.co.uk/store-locator
The one time I tried a Krispy Kreme donut (admittedly from a boothlet in a gas station, not an actual outlet), I wanted to find out what their higher-than-Timmies’ fat content tasted like. (I think it’s somewhere around 22-23%, Timmies? perhaps 17% — numbers I saw long ago, a little vague.)
I didn’t like the KK donut for that very reason: perhaps because I’d been cycling (breathing strongly cooled my mouth?), my mouth could not melt all that lard or shortening, so the ‘nut tasted like tonguing through fatty pastry. Not fun.
That’s why ‘Murica looooves KK.
In case anyone is interested, the KK ‘nutrition’ page. (Look at the fats, 5g + 6g (sat./unsat.), etc, and to the right, at the four forms of exercise to compensate for one — 1! — glazed donut.)

Good morning and happy Friday! I’m looking forward to listening to the Saskatchewan playlist, like Samara, there are some new to me artists to explore. I’m not a fan of either Krispy Kreme or Tim Hortons, but I can’t embark on a roadtrip without some Timmy’s in the car (as long as I’m not roadtripping in the area of the US that doesn’t yet have Tim Hortons)
Me, another thing is that Tim’s coffee wires me up, because I’m used to drinking strong black French roast; that “most of the roasts” burns out a great percentage of the caffeine. Also, Tim’s uses at least some Robusto coffee beans, which contain more caffeine than Arabica…
I have only ever had Timmies coffee once. I went for the standard double double during my last visit but I don’t think I will be doing that again. I’ll just stick with the coffee flavoured drinks in future.
“….but I don’t think I will be doing that again…” why?
because I didn’t enjoy it. If I had another Timmies coffee it would be an americano.
Ya, obviously, but I was wondering more about what it was about it that you didn’t like. Trying to get a opinion on standard Canuck coffee, but from the outside. (I know what *I* think of it, but I’ll have a Tim’s straight up black, see? Different)
My “obviously” —> your “didn’t enjoy it”
Do I take it that the double double was too creamy, sweet?
I was just in the process of typing that it was too sweet and creamy (I use 2% milk at home) and not enough flavour
and I can’t compare it to Starbucks coffee because I only drink hot chocolate from there
I’ve got to admit I also find that it doesn’t take a lot of milk to deaden the taste of coffee. (I’ll do that, with perhaps a touch of sugar, if I’ve zapped the coffee a bit often, to rewarm, and the taste is going off, but isn’t really off yet.)
Starbucks. I had one of their standard coffees the other day, because of a free coupon, and it wasn’t bad. It sure wasn’t great either. I couldn’t compare it with Timmies’ either. Besides, compared to my French style, they’re both weaksauce.
and Robusta beans are cheaper than Arabica
a double double isn’t coffee; it’s coffee-flavoured dessert
You have Bridgehead in Ottawa. It’s pretty decent
7:43: “Could you put a double squirt of caramel in that, and some whipped cream on top? Aaaaaaaaaah, I love my coffee!…”
the once in a blue moon I’m in a situation where I’m desperate enough for Timmies, I drink it with 2% milk.
Because, as BfO says, it helps deaden the “flavour”
7:45 Yeah, we do. I”ll have, very occasionally, a double espresso long at one of those. Usually though, my coffee’s homemade.
Off for a bit, to pay a bill. (Post strike probably off for good, but too close to deadline.) Ciao.
1 last comment: I still take the Timmie’s black, ’cause it sets off what decent coffee I make for myself. Pat on own back.
my coffee at home is made by one of these guys. I didn’t pay that much for it. Got a sweet deal when they were moving locations and had a sale

Good morning!
On topic: I have to say we are doing so much better than the Radio 3 blog did (at least in recent years) on actual Canadian indie stories. Thanks again Reginula; looking forward to the playlist.
Good morning!
I’m putting my new purchases from Fred’s Records on my computer 🙂
Tonight is Royal Canoe listening Party night!
I’ll listen to the playlist in a bit after q is over. I have company coming over later today, so I’ll need some tiding up music.
The only time I drink Tim’s coffee is when traveling and there is no other option. I order it black with one packet of sugar on the side, because Timmies idea of one sugar tastes like triple sugar. Yuck! 🙁
Luckily, on our recent trip to St. John’s, it has several great coffee shops serving the kind of coffee I drink here in Winnipeg.
When I told someone what I thought after trying a double double they told me they knew someone that drank triple tiples
Garfy, 7:58 It is true, I have seen people order it like that.
my brother used to work at Tim’s back in high school and I remember him saying there was a regular who would get a “4×4” (four by four).
As for Sasktachewan, Go Riders. Labour Day classic this weekend. Facebook reminded me of the game 4 years ago I was at when the Riders beat the Bombers something like 56-0. That was quite the day.
oh yeah, also on topic: it’s a great list of current SK talent. Because I’m old, I’m going to fill the blog up with some older SK bands, most of which don’t exist anymore.
let’s start with one a lot of people may know:
evidently, this song is about get auto-erotic.
and the album title was Like My Tractor, not Lick my Tractor (Lik My Trakter)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmvw6TjP5Ic
and the first Northern Pikes single, IIRC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPznPZLNQhI
and a band that everyone forgets about, who had a fair string of hits back in the day, starting with this one.
Just read that they spent most of their career in Winnipeg, but Regina claimed them all the time, because they started there
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-9h8wtZ0Rg
I’m pretty sure this was their one and only single that did anything at all:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRyiUoZbPag
krib, I first discovered the Pikes when I was visiting Swift Current (IIRC) and bought their first indie album, the one with a black cover. It had earlier versions of some of the songs, before they were signed, including Teenland, You Sold the Farm and so on.
If I’m being real, The Sheepdogs are far and away my favourite Saskatchewan band. I think they rule.
btw, trivia for some of you
Daryl Gutheil – keyboard player for Streetheart, is Paul Gutheil’s uncle (sax player for Library Voices)
Good morning everyone!
Cause ‘merica…. Krispy Kreme is nasty…. those donuts seem to show up at the suburban corporate office parks brought in by the HR lady.
I like Timmy’s… went there a ton when I was in Edmonton last year. My buddy kept wanting to get tea, I got coffee, and sometimes a donut, made me happy.
and these guys…they’re a current band and are a BLAST live, because rockabilly rules!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2SfIkdAMB8
yeah, so the lyrics to that Waltons’ song…pretty obvious, I guess. Been a while since I listened to it
and this girl. who moved to TO for a while and I think is back now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJabGLIF7go
@krib, have you ever thought of putting together some youtube playlists for the blog?
Hello! It’s raining here so I did not ride either my motorbike or bicycle to work today. Took the Prius instead. #fairweatherrider
@funhug…. I just heard the weather in Seattle, and like here in Portland, and am guessing where you are in BC … a gray and possibly rainy day.
Yes, rain in the forecast for awhile unfortunately. If I had to ride a bike it would be my bicycle. I don’t mind pedaling in the rain too much.
Joy Formidable on KEXP!! Whoohoo!
I’ve noticed if you write a long post, the “Post Comment” button disappears. My fault for being long winded.
Hello!
My name is Regina. My two favourite bands are from Saskatchewan and it always thrills me to order a double-double when I’m in Canada.
Send me all your Timmies! (But then, don’t. Dunkin’ Donuts just reopened here and people are treating it like a high end donut-coffee shop)
@Samara @Janet @Wes Thank you for reading! And thanks for dropping by. Hope you enjoy the playlist.
(Part 1/2) Would anyone of the OurBasement editorial content team care to engage for a moment?
I personally don’t think OurBasement should be a “Music News” site as it states upon entry to the site and as has been the focus of some of (the majority of?) the posts. “We” don’t have paid music journalists or resources to break stories, or to report on music news, or conduct interviews, etc.
I think the focus should be on Canadian Music fan posts – editorials, reviews, themed posts such as today’s, show stories, etc. Not to say there’s no place for “news” on the site but really, leave the music news to sites like Exclaim, Noisey, Pitchfork and yes even CBC Music.
(part 2/2) By being a “music news” site I think it’s limiting the contributions of the community of Canadian Music fans who come here. It’s my opinion that there should be more emphasis on Canadian music as seen through the eyes of the fans – the people “here”, and less on the idea of traditional “Music Journalism” (of which no-one here is, except for Reginula, who writes 98% of the content – so it makes sense her posts are of that variety, no harm done a’tall).
It’s my feeling that if things were a little less “newsy”, there could be more submissions from people who frequent this place. I don’t have any facts or figures to back this opinion up though.
Personally, I think posts like today’s are what this blog should feature more of – that is – an angle about Can-Con that doesn’t necessarily have a “story” or a point or any actual news, but rather is just a post about canadian music as made by an interested party. Sorry about all the “quotations”, i can be a bit of a Chris Farley at times.
Also, this is just my opinion, not meant to say I don’t appreciate what the blog here is doing, and the content has been so far. Feel free to tell me frig off. But, I wanted to raise the topic and see what others thought about it.
Deep Dark Woods! Loving this Sasky play list Regina.
There’s a potato in Quebec that is making people feel safe.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/holy-potato-seniors-residence-quebec-1.3745333
9:42: Of course it’s a sign. A sign of a potato disease!
God does not manifest in diseased potatoes. It’s too low-rent.
@Tom First of all, I want you to know that the door is always open to contributions. Yours have been very good –just needed some minor editing, formatting– and I really hope more people will volunteer to write posts like yours.
Then, this community relies on having a fresh daily post every weekday. We don’t have paid journalists, but we can’t pay for collaborations as to impose a deadline on them. I wish we could have this kind of posts, or the ones like TrackBack, everyday, but those take time and a lot of research. News posts are most of the time me scrambling around late at night to have a topic the next morning. Content usually falls on me, but I really don’t mind that. I like writing for this place, about things I love, and I want it to be taken care of properly to actually help the bands we’re writing about. We know they rarely get the space in the sites you previously mentioned
To be honest, and I’m sorry if it sounds presumptuous, but I consider myself a resource for news-breaking. I write for a living, and I know how to handle those things. Some of our friends rely on this site for learning new music and other things. You may follow all those places, but some of our readers –you can go to the post and check–, didn’t know about the new Grand Analog song, for example.
Finally, some bands are starting to trust us with their projects. And for them to be taken seriously, we need to be taken seriously too. I guess we need some rigour for that.
Again, the door is always open for collaborations.
FT, thoughtful comment up there, warrants some reflection.
Reg, thoughtful comment also, same remark.
Did you all see this? Who wants to run and bike it (human powered) with me!
Canada Opening 22,000 km Car-Free Bike Path Across The Country In 2017
http://www.mtlblog.com/2016/09/canada-opening-22000-km-car-free-bike-path-across-the-country-in-2017/
@Justin, You should live stream the journey
Reg, thanks for the reply – I’m sorry to post and run but that’s what I have to do! Will read your response more carfeully and respond a little later. Ciao for now!
Garf, not really, no. I guess I should think about that…means actually logging in to YT, which I hardly ever do
so the trans-canada trail is actually nearing completion? I thought it was an eternal work in progress
I have to agree with Tom’s posts about content, and that’s all I’m going to say about that.
And does that post about the Car-Free Bike Path involve the Trans-Canada Trail? It isn’t really clear whether the Great Trail and the Trans-Canada Trail are the same thing, but if so, part of the Trans-Canada Trail goes right past the farm where I grew up and where my mom still lives! I have run some of it! It would be an amazing trip to travel the whole thing, and would definitely show you this country.
someone decided “the great trail” was a better name, for some reason. when you go to the tctrail.ca site now, it takes you to thegreattrail.ca
the old site still exists if you skip the main page redirect
http://tctrail.ca/about-the-trail/
in the stats, it says 26% of the trail is on water. hard to run that, JG
YAY FOR SASKATCHEWAN!
Hi folks.
Also, outside of inevitable discontinuities, the trail uses what was gotten, and so looks like it’s following the limits of gerrymandered counties — it goes left and right and up for 80 km, then back down… There is an interactive map (dreadfully slow in loading details) that show the trail, once your resolution is compatible — you have to go “closer in”, regionally, for it to appear.
oh. if anyone is planning on going to MTL next year, La Ronde is having a big sale on season passes this weekend
http://www.mtlblog.com/2016/09/montreals-la-ronde-announces-insane-47-season-passes-for-summer-2017/
I saw some of that Trans Canada Trail last week at Cypress Hills. We drove back to Regina by Red Coat Trail instead of #1 highway and saw many more signs for the trail along the drive. I love getting off the #1 highway by the way. It takes a little longer but is a nicer drive.
Wow, I’m not going to tell my mom that there’s an interactive map of that trail. She’s already a little freaked out that it goes right past her house.
Random and pointless: Saskatchewan has always had a special place in my heart because as a kid I loved that it had the same abbreviation as my initials. Now it’s SK but back when I was little it was SSK like me. I used to go around just saying “Sssassskatchewan!!” 😛
Let’s run it @loweeda…. huzzah!
Justin, part of me reeeeally wants to, and I think you can relate to that part 🙂
My mom would make us dinner! And probably pack us a lunch for the next day, too.
Both Regina and Tom make some good points. It sounds like Reg isn’t necessarily disagreeing with Tom, but rather saying she wants the site to be taken seriously, almost regardless of content (without minimizing the importance of news). So the quality is more important than the type of content possibly? Maybe we could brainstorm some other taglines or even — gasp! — a mission statement! Off the top of my head, could change the tag to “Canadian Indie News & Views…”
I love that Samara. Now come visit! 😉
Emoticons don’t work on my system now. 🙁
Hola chicos y chicas!
Of course, we all want the site to be taken seriously. But not every piece has to have the tone of a news story, or be edited to read like one–which is maybe what Tom was suggesting. But I should let him speak for himself and stop talking about this, like I said I was going to.
@darbar I would love to visit Saskatchewan! I’ve passed through it, but didn’t get to stay long enough to see anything. I had a very memorable encounter with some quite bizarre hunters at a petrol station in the middle of nowhere and that’s about my only memory of Saskatchewan. One day I’ll get back to the amazing prairies… all that sky, it’s incredible… and I’d love to meet you!
Likewise Samara! We do have some interesting characters and great skies here. hehe
We may need to clarify the goal of “OurBasement” and make that mission statement of sorts that Wes mentioned. Starting with whose basement is it?
From the beginning I suggested the tagline to be “A new home for Canadian indie music”. To me, it sounds open to a lot of things.
Wasn’t it “A new home for Canadian indie music *fans*” at first? To darb’s point, whose basement? I assume “thebasement.ca” was taken.
@reginula – You are doing a wonderful job by the way.
My basic meaning was it is the basement of the people that are running the site or is it our collective basement?
Seems like the discussion is about what constitutes “news” to me
I don’t really worry much about that, but I do like that other tag line better.
Here’s a thought:
The people who created, planned, administered and are working on this site (day to day) and paying for it should have the right to do “whatever-the-hell-they-want”, I am happy with whatever they choose, you know why? -> because I trust them
This isn’t a publicly paid-for site anymore. Just keep that in mind.
That is “our” basement as in the royal “we”. In reality, it’s *my* basement, but I’m being nice about it.
MJW for the wynn. um, win.
haha!
because we had so much say when it was a publicly paid-for site
Sorry for my ignorance, but can someone give me the ‘story’ on the site and its predecessor? Who is paying for it, running it, etc.?
centro, the original was CBC. At the end of that, s.o. at CBC set up a FB group. It’s not much used (some don’t FB at all). This here site has been (I think) paid for by garf, and engineered by justingrady, tiffyleeson, garf and…? reginula has been contributing most articles (blog headings), though others have too, and the odd bloggie perhaps one.
(Others, pls complete & edit my above recounting.)
I only paid for the domain, from what I understand Justin is paying the hosting costs
Zammachus was involved in the beginning as well.
They were all at NXNE and a plan was hatched.
Do we need a virtual tip box or something to help with costs?
My question exactly, Wes. Is there a way to contribute/crowdfund the costs?
@Wes, I did suggest we could use something like patreon at the original meeting but nothing has been said about it since
oh, that crazy Jann Arden…
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/jann-arden-eskimo-insensitive-1.3746065
or send donations of timbits/nanaimo bars/poutine to my home address
@garf — you can make your own poutine, as long as you can get good, squeaky curds
Wynnzie, why do you take that tone? (@11:53) I can’t help but feel like you are passive aggressively saying that in my direction.
Reginula, I think you’ve been doing a great job – above and beyond – my suggestion was maybe to try and garner more contributors, there’s plenty of good writers here with interesting stories or points of view who aren’t secondarily Music Journalists. I’m not criticizing what you’ve done here.
There can still be new music and videos and songs and all that – obviously anyone interested in music has their favourites and new things they want to share. That can qualify as news, sure. For example, a new BBNG video dropped today! I think all I’m trying to say is that by making this a music “news” site, as it’s general format, its ostensibly competing against the “real” music news sites. I don’t want to discourage anyone from writing and I don’t want to discredit any of the stiff you’ve done, as I said, you’ve been hitting it out of the park.
@Centro, I don’t know of anyone that sells cheese curds over here
I don’t know where the word “secondarily” came from in my above post, please disregard.
@garf — are you anywhere near this place?
https://www.thestar.com/life/food_wine/2014/11/22/toronto_man_delivers_poutine_craze_to_the_uk.html
The people working on, paying for, administrating this site of course have the right to do “whatever-the-hell-they-want”. I think though, that when input/ideas are requested, people will give them. I didn’t read Tom’s comments as him trying to take away anyone’s rights to do something. Just seemed like someone throwing ideas around.
You are ALL doing a great job.
I am out of here. Have a great LONG weekend everyone!
Everyone is able to pitch stories at any time.
We try to provide fun content based on news, new music, old music we love and shows. Basically anything revolving Canadian Indie Music.
Not every article written is going to ‘apply’ to everyone’s tastes. That is impossible.
Alot of us have spent alot of time on it. If you want to see an article published, or have an idea for a story, please reach out.
Also, please have some courtesy when giving input as we are all friends in this community. These are people behind the scenes putting in in some cases almost 2 hours a day of personal time. Which is enjoyable obviously or else it wouldn’t be a site.
Just please keep in mind that it takes 3 minutes to write a negative comment / opinion, while for others it takes hours a week to have a place for you to make those complaints.
@Centro, I am about 250miles north of their second location but according to google maps that has closed
@Tom I can’t go around pushing people into writing for us, especially if I have to throw edits and deadlines on their work. That’s why I keep saying the door is open. Whoever wants to contribute, is more than welcome to do. Ushering people into it does not feel right (I’ve done it and it turns awkward on both sides). The time invested in begging for contributions is best put at use by actually working on the content.
I did see the BBNG video, but I felt it was time to put together something different for today’s post. Still, I could write about it but a) We haven’t figured out, site-wise, how to make clear the daily topic b) What you see is what we have the time to put together.
As for competition, I don’t really know what to tell you about that. If it does start to rise, I don’t think we’ll stop it. And I think we’re doing things the right way. I don’t see an issue and it would bring some retribution, spirit-wise. Not for my work, but Tiff’s, Justin’s, everyone who has invested time on this.
@garf — perhaps there’s a cheesery somewhere in Ontario/Quebec (or even Wisconsin?) that would ship some over to you?
@Centro, I go to the Maple Leaf in Maiden Lane for poutine when I am in London
Ok my point is either being misunderstood or I don’t know what, so sorry aboot that and carry on!
I know i’m late to the party today – but any plans for the long weekend??
I am going to see the Trews tomorrow night
My dad invited me lol
the little bobblehead baby things in the Not Ready to Go video freaked my kids out when they were young
@Tiffy, I didn’t read Tom’s or anyone’s comments as negative, just friends having a conversation about our collective identity / the purpose of the site. Everyone keeps saying how much they appreciate all the work that has gone into it.
Trews sounds like fun!!
For what it’s worth…and considering the source (me), that’s not much…I didn’t think Tom’s posts were meant to really criticize so much as to give a recommendation based on his opinion. I thought his tone was respectful and complimentary. Also FWIW, I have enjoyed my admittedly very limited exposure to the content and much appreciate the efforts of anyone and everyone who made this place possible. My only complaint is that I can’t listen to the playlist without a Spotify account (whatever that is), but I understand that there may be legal and other issues with posting music that isn’t paid for somehow? Anyway, not having Spotify sounds like more of a “me” problem than anything else. Perhaps I should look into that….
Last, if there’s a mechanism to contribute funds to help keep this place up and running, let me know, and I will send a contribution.
YT playlists would fix that issue, because YT’s like honey badge*
*it don’t care
okay…wait a minute so I don’t get that posting too quickly message, then say
badger, with an r
I am glad we are having an open conversation about it.
However, I will make one more statement. Again, anyone is able to suggest topics and pitch ideas. We have Reg do the editing because that’s her profession and we (believe it or not) have traffic from outside of our little group of people. We want to be professional. We want it to read that way.
Also, please be aware that every single pitch we have received, we have published. So it’s not like we are sitting on a bunch of people dying to write for us lol. There is no manipulating or ‘hogging lol. But, at the end of the day, in order for us to gain better content for articles, and maybe even ‘exclusives’ with bands, or interviews, we need to uphold the quality of the journalism so that others (bands, labels, promoters) will feel confident in our ability to promote their work.
Capeesh?
Anywhoo. I hate fighting. So I am going to go back to binge watching the latest season of Law and Order SVU
this is fighting?
I don’t know. It’s been a long week for me. I am le tired.
have to resurrect this ol’ chestnut, now that I mentioned it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg
Thanks for the playlist @Reg! I’m just firing it up now… been slammed with work all morning.
The fact that we use spotify is probably my fault.
@garf — everything is your fault
You are not the first to say that
I enjoyed that playlist and intend to listen again. Thanks again Regina.
@Tiffy – Have fun at The Trews with your dad! It should be fun. This is the first weekend since mid July that I don’t have big plans. There is a supper I am going to tonight but otherwise I plan on rest, relaxation and maybe catching up a bit on stuff that got pushed to the wayside the past month.
@darbar – I don’t think i’ve ever seen them before! My dad saw them I believe earlier this year on ‘The Rock Boat’ cruise him and my stepmom do every year out of Miami. They have been following them ever since. My show going habits are passed down from my father lol
@tiffy – Awesome! My music loving is passed down from my father. I love how music can bring people together!
@Centro What does it say when you try to play it?
Meanwhile up on Nova Scotia… dude go muddin’ their crapped out Corollas.

Good one @justin! Takes me back to the days of my youth in SW Nova.
@Old Abe @runwabou… I totally did stupid muddin’ stuff like this when I was at University in Montana…. with my 1977 metallic brown FWD Subaru. Total.idiotic.fun.
As in Trailer Park Boys: “Just fuckin’ give ‘er!” And “fuck” served out with many sauces.
@justin we had an old 79′ CJ7 and traveled a few logging roads with it. Always fun!
@BfO… I was totally thinking of TPB when watching those vids. Saw the Horton’s cup in the cupholder too.
@Runwabou… My Mom has an ’84 CJ7, great fun ride…
Feels like the weekend is here. I hear echoes. Time to play frisbee in the hallways.
I’m going to see-hear Sarah MacDougall and Ben Kunder tonight. Ciao bambini!
Royal Canoe are on their way to the first house to deliver their new vinyl. I so wish I was in Winnipeg for this.
Sounds like a great night Benoit. Enjoy!

@reginula – It was such a cool idea. I was tentatively going to Winnipeg next weekend. If this had been happening next weekend instead I would have been going for sure!
And Belle Plaine just posted a new video!

And I am off. Have a great weekend all!
Sarah MacDougall is very, very good. Nice, slightly smoky voice, very polished execution, excellent “mikecraft”, guitar playing, etc. Also noteworthy, Ben Kunder. Strong in all the categories, songwriting, guitar, singin’, harmony singin’…
Good long weekend, everydobby.
everydobby?
All over the map this weekend. Not here though. Unsurprisingly.
Check check (taps mike) FEEDBACK check check one choo three… (tap tap) Is this thing on?
Hello, how has you Labour day weekend been so far?
laboured
haha
Pretty ordinary weekend — I haven’t seen a show since Friday (yes, I know how that may sound), but the temperature, although it’s still wanting to climb surprisingly high, at least goes down at night (clear skies). That means that I can do things outside, at least more than when it was murderously hot. Also, seeing it’s a long weekend, the last of the summer: the city is quiet. Which is nice, really.
So, no complaints. About to go out for a spirited bit of cycling, then a late breakfast.

i am hoping to see her traveling exhibition in london tomorrow
I see it’s busy in here today
Happy Labour Day! Are y’all at a cottage or something instead of on the blog?
I think I come under “something” because I am on a train to London (England)
That’s something. I’m working (from home, and not a full day) but planning on the traditional BBQ + beer later.
I’m hoping to have sushi and go bowling later
Sounds like as good a way to spend a long weekend as any. Have fun!
this train is very stationary despite not being in a station
Ha! I hear people who have never had to deal with North American trains think British trains are pretty awful 😉
I have dealt with British, Canadian and, Danish trains, and I would say neither of us come out on top
Germany and Japan definitely kick all of our asses.
This is very true, even China do a better job on some routes
We are still sat sitting here not moving
Maybe you hit a moose.
Incidentally, I just finished reading this book I found in a bargain bin, about the current and historic state of various countries’ railways (including the UK and China). It was pretty interesting.
We are now officially late 🙁
close, apparently we had idiots on the line
we are moving
I was on a train once that was delayed because we hit some debris that teenagers tossed on the tracks for kicks, a fact which the conductor announced with the weariness of someone who has to deal with such shit routinely.
Hope you don’t miss your bowling date!
it was just an idea, nothing set in stone
about to arrive, speak to you on the way home tomorrow
