On Thursday October 20th Montreal-based band Wintersleep, along with the rest of us, will find out if their video Amerika has won an award in the Indie Rock category of the 2016 UK VMAs.
In that catagory they are competing against American bands The Dead Weather (I Feel Love) and Radkey (Glore) along with Australia’s Tame Impala (The Less I Know The Better), Netherland’s De Staat (Witch Doctor) and Spain’s Hinds (Warts).
Do you think they should win? Who else do you think should have been nominated?
Good morning!
Hello!
This may interest some of you. Medium length. TERRIBLE BACKGROUND

(It seems to me that what is being talked about was to be expected, given that Montreal is a bit “Haiti North”.)
Morning folks
Hello, tiffy. (Must go out.) Later!
Good morning everyone! Greetings from Bend Oregon… feels great to be back.
Good morning!
I’ve been trying to be around more lately, but hasn’t really panned out that way. How’s everyone doing?!
Hey @Sless! Welcome back!
Good morning!
Anyone here listen to Sirius/XM Radio? Specifically channel 36, SiriusXMU?
The reason why I ask is because they do a live broadcast of indie music bloggers throughout the week. It seems as though they invite guest hosts to come on and do a 2 hour segment and let them play whatever they want. That could be exclusively Canadian indie music if the blogger want. I’m going to inquire about it and see what, if anything, kind of attention we can get for Our Basement.
Because Our Basement is a music blog, that might be something we can do to promote the site.
Thoughts?
Sless: that’s a good thought you’ve had.
I’m trying hard to think but I am at the top of my tea still.
Yes, yes, that looks very interesting @sless!
Although we (N2DS2W) are semi-retired, we emailed XMU to participate, and have heard nothing.
I think it’s a great idea.
@justingrady back in Bend! Sweet. How is the wildlife?
G’day mites. ;P
@Tiffy I’ve been thinking of you (good post yesterday, btw) I hope you are feeling positive this first week of being a freelancer! I am sending you all my best wishes for your new adventures.
well that was a brash way to start my morning. excellent video but a bit macabre for the first input to my brain this morning.
my own fault, i should have waited until I was more awake with filters in place.
music video’s have not really been a part of my life since the ’80s when they were the big, new shiny thing. Stew Jeffries and Terry David Mulligan come to mind and MTV and Much Music of course.
@garfielduk I am not being down on your post. Good idea for a blog topic I am just terribly out of the loop on them. who do you think should win the UK VMA?
@morgana… my Dad and I drove over to Bend last night so still getting my bearings (get that, huh huh!?). Anywho… feels good. Going to make some cool plans this week and have yet another birthday celebration on Friday with my Bend crew.
The wildlife, Duke is on his bed looking for Canada geese out the window, tough life, he loves it.
“hi”
good company that wintersleep is in for this video award thing. Especially, imo, tame impala.
So last night I volunteered myself at a local venue for the first time. the show was Preoccupations, perhaps better known by their old name Viet Cong. I thought they were OK, not entirely my scene but they’re decent for sure. I’m not good at describing genres but I’d say they are “Pretentious Art House Noise Rock”. Nothing really punk rock about them which is one way I’ve heard them described. Some songs i liked more than others because basically, some songs to me, were too long making noise for the sake of making noise. They’re loud and fill every sonic inch with noise (two unnecessary (imo) synth machines to add wall of drone). People liked them a lot though. It’s funny I say they’re “too noisy” … I used to love that shit. feedback and distortion and amps turned to 11 just for the sake of it… ah well. Not a bad band by any means and I enjoyed it overall, both volunteering and the concert, but they aren’t a band I particularly would call myself a fan of.
So, you know when you go on hold and they say it will be 15 minutes and it turns out to be 25 … and then you accidentally hang up instead of taking the call off of the speaker feature …
I am going out for a while to try and accomplish something!
FT, good review. Honest. Good shit.
Dear morgana: FUCK those systems. There are other things that could be done, but of course, poor service reduces service calls, doesn’t it? Companies know that: service costs cut into profits.
FT is now a WECC volunteer?
Cool! You’ll see some good shows.
@russ, yeah it’s one of those things that I’ve been meaning to do for a while and finally got around to signing up. Hoping for more good shows to come along for sure. It’s a great venue, hosts a real mish mash of things.
@Morgana 08:17
I’m so far out of that loop I didn’t know the UK VMAs existed before last night
Those were some good vids up there! Go Wintersleep!
I don’t know about you all, but I am struggling for motivation this Tuesday afternoon!
That is nearly every day for me here these days.
Nice to know I’m not alone 🙂
Agreed! I can feel pretty alone in my dungeon. hehe
And, as soon as you find someone to commiserate with, I’m afraid I’ll be bailing on you. Hopefully your dungeon isn’t too isolating
Thanks janet. I will survive my dark and dreary and oh so lonely dungeon. Ha!
Spotify ads are making Adware pop up on my browser these days. Looking into the forums, I am not alone. I hope they fix it soon.
Spotify sent me a renewal notice. i have never paid for the premium and don’t plan on it. The receipt says billed to store credit?
@garfielduk 11:20 it is nice to be under the same rock as you:)
Weird. I am using Free as well and have no plan of upgrading.
how did i think of this first?!

morgana,
is it really spotify, or is it some phishing thing?
@krib that is what i am trying to figure out.
it is from apple for the spotify app apparently.
there are links to follow if you want to stop the renewal but i don’t want to click on anything in the email so I am going to check out apples site but if i recall they do not have humans you can ask questions of so this may take me some time.
@morgana – Don’t click on anything or believe they are real until you have found out for sure.
Found a phone number!
I am currently on hold (again) with Air Canada so once I have that done I will go on hold with Apple.
I would rather be on the road on my Pedego bike! See comment 15:18 from me.
You’re very diligent. I’d just delete it
I don’t trust myself when it comes to computers; we have never had the best relationship so i need to be thorough.
I google and read forums.
hey, Apple support offers three choices in music while you wait for a human! so none of them are Canadian Indy but it is cool none the less.
If I have success with Apple like I did with Air Canada I may even try to figure out this Yahoo account security email they sent me …
Hehe. Morgana on a roll.
confirmed phishing!
now trying to back up my iPad, then upgrade it and maybe it will work.
the poor IT guy from Apple
but i did compliment him/his company on allowing people to select their music genre.
if anyone is interested in Coachella they may like the Perego link I put up at 15:18
i am going to close this and other tabs so that i can take a jab at these other IT admin type details that I love so.
see you all tomorrow.
