Colored Sands by Gorguts2013 album from the Canadian Technical Death Metal band. Few extreme bands have the pedigree of Gorguts. From their early days as part of Death Metal’s first wave through their transformation into one of the most progressive and influential bands in Extreme Metal, Gorguts has been impervious to trends, and a vehicle to expand and redefine the language of Metal. After a hiatus following 2001’s From Wisdom to Hate, Gorguts reformed in 2008. The band returned to the live circuit for the first time in over 10 years as main support for the legendary Death To All tour in 2012, and followed it up with a handful of European festival dates, including MetalCamp, Brutal Assault Festival, Rock Im Betwonwerk, Metal Mean Festival, and more.

55 Historical Recordings of Traditional Music by InuitOriginally released by Sub Rosa in 1999. A pivotal album in their career, this marked the first time the duo completely stepped away from the more abstract sound pieces of earlier albums and engaged with the more symphonic and compositional approach that has become the forte of their more recent recordings.

Terraform by Sam Roberts BandTerraForm is the sixth full-length album release since 2015’s Counting The Days EP and 2014’s album Lo-Fantasy. Roberts believes the key to the band’s longevity is their steadfast enthusiasm to stick to their artistic guns and consistently work to make a better album each time. Roberts emphasizes, “I think the challenge for our band is to still deliver the music with a sense of spontaneity, a sense of urgency and I think that when we go into a new record, we sort of loosen the grips of other people’s expectations and our own expectations.” |
Wonderland by Sarah McLachlanSarah McLachlan returns with what will surely be one of the year’s top Christmas albums, Wonderland. Sarah has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and has won 9 Juno awards as well as 3 Grammy awards (with 13 nominations). |

Home On Native Land by The Hidden CamerasAptly titled Home on Native Land, the new record conveys Gibb’s own interpretation of country music and a romanticized take on Canadiana. Speaking to Exclaim!, he jokes that this is the album that “has taken longer to make than Chinese Democracy,” as work on it began as far back as during the sessions for 2006’s Awoo, with Gibb steadily chipping away at it while Origin:Orphan and Age saw releases.
1000 Arms by Blue RodeoBlue Rodeo will release their new studio album, 1000 Arms, on October 28! The 12-track album was co-produced and engineered by Tim Vesely, a founding member of the Rheostatics. 1000 Arms is available digitally and on CD, and vinyl through BlueRodeo.com. All pre-orders of the album will receive an instant download of four tracks from the new album!
Living Under June by Jann ArdenOriginally released in August of 1994, Living Under June is the second album by Canadian singer/songwriter Jann Arden. “Could I Be Your Girl”, “Insensitive” and “Good Mother” were all significant hits for Arden in Canada, with “Wonderdrug,” “Unloved” and “Looking for It (Finding Heaven)” also becoming Canadian adult-contemporary hits. “Insensitive” was Arden’s biggest hit internationally, entering the Top 40 in several countries, including Italy and the United States (#12 on the Billboard Hot 100). In the U.S., “Could I Be Your Girl” was also a minor adult contemporary chart hit (#33). Total worldwide sales for this album come to 1.3 million, with 600,000 Canadian, and 500,000 US.

Haydn: Piano Sonatas by Jane CoopIt is only in the last twenty-five years that there has been any serious investigation into the wealth of achievement that is Joseph Haydn’s. His keyboard music in particular has been given attention mainly by amateurs and teachers, with very few performances on the concert stage. For this release, Jane Coop has tackled Haydn’s piano sonatas. Haydn’s treatment of the piano sonata is nothing less than bold and innovative. Every movement explores an entirely different range of musical thought, with tremendous variety in mood, texture and rhythm. Jane Coop is widely known as Canada’s most brilliant pianist. She appears regularly with major orchestras in North America. Critics have applauded her “virtuosic ease” and found her playing “completely beguiling.” She lives in Vancouver, where she is Professor of Piano and Chamber music at the University of British Columbia. |
If you click on the covers it will take you to the relevant amazon page and the streaming logos should allow you to preview the album. I will add other streaming services as and when I find them.
Hello
What do you think of today’s post? Should we have one of these every Thursday?
Which other online stores would you like me to add alongside amazon?
Did I miss any vinyl releases this week?
Cool Idea Garf, Thank-you.
I will definitely check out some of these.
Thanks Scott
Good morning everyone! The JPNSGRLS show last night in Bend was awesome and total fun. Up until 1:45am, up at 6:30am.
wow, Sam Roberts has been busy…
“TerraForm is the sixth full-length album release since 2015’s Counting The Days EP and 2014’s album Lo-Fantasy. ”
when I nod my head, hit it…
@krib, I “borrowed” that text from their own site
soooo…most of you won’t know this, but we got a new mayor; someone cool and progressive who cares about really doing things to make the city a better place.
who was endorsed by Zach Galafianakas. They’re cousins-in-law

Garf…yeah, I figured as much. I just chuckled at the text. “his sixth album since 2015…”
@Krib… congrats on your new mayor man! He looks cool.
Top ‘o the afternoon to all in my time zone!
um… where is everyone?
Sarah McLachlan is turning into Anne Murray. Almost.
I saw Donovan Woods last night in Kitchener. Fantastic show! Everyone should go see him. Hilarious dead-pan banter between songs.
So links are red now? Ok.
“Banter” isn’t really the right word there, because it was just Donovan talking. Banter is “an exchange of light, playful, teasing remarks; good-natured raillery.” But “talking” didn’t sound right.
Garf, I love the 80s style graphic for this post. Did you make it?
@Wes, The links have been red for a few days and the graphics were created using this site

I have some more set up for future weeks
@Wes… don’t know where everyone is…. I’m here. Greetings from Bend Oregon!
I’m here, I just didn’t have anything intelligent to say. No reason to let that stop me I guess.
I am watching this on youtube while I should be researching release dates for future editions of this post

@Loozrboy – It never stops me. :p
Hi all!
Hi Darbar!
Had a bit of snow on the ground when we woke up this morning. Happens every year at some point, but always manages to be an unpleasant surprise. (I guess you Saskatoonianites are way ahead of us on that front).
In Regina we had snow that came a few days after a 20 plus day. That was a shock to the system. It has long since melted. There have been a few cold rainy days but overall it hasn’t been too bad.
I love that floor!
I would do that floor.
No snow here yet, mid November likely or around US Thanksgiving.
That is a pretty spiffy looking floor.
UK could be in for a white Christmas with 120 days of snow – or not

the snow’s long gone here. High of 10 today. Been exceedingly chilly and grey here in Oct, though
Hello.
Weather: rainy and cloudy.
That site you made the graphic on is amazing… got a little carried away with it hahah.
I had no idea Sam Roberts had a new one coming out, that’s cool. Nice post, Garf.
I noticed yesterday that The Flatliners are releasing an extremely limited 7″ available only at Fest http://thefestfl.com/ (in florida) which is going on this week.

I have only consumed other peoples beer while in Alberta
actually fired up the stR3am.
listening to We Were One by Plants and Animals.
sounds like it could’ve come off of Hunky Dory

y’know, if I stumbled across cbc music and radio3 and didn’t know how great it was before, I’d think it was a pretty cool site. There is a lot of stuff to explore from a Canadian music perspective
You snooze you lose. I didn’t get tickets for Great Lake Swimmers for tomorrow night and now it is sold out. I may get to check out The Motorleague after all.
