“Music ♥’s Everybody” is the intriguing message of a new merchandise campaign unveiled by SOCAN Monday, with all proceeds going to the Unison Benevolent Fund, a non-profit, registered charity that provides counselling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community.
The e-commerce site launched (www.kt8merch.com/store/pages/socan) with several pieces of merchandise already modelled by some of SOCAN’s more famous members, who were quick to endorse both Unison and SOCAN as organizations that help music creators, publishers and artists.
Music ♥’s Everybody tweaks the imagination by counter-intuitively turning the tables. Just about everyone loves music, and the idea of every genre and type of music unconditionally loving every person strikes a chord.
“I hope my fans and all fans of music get these cool clothes on for a great cause,” said SOCAN member and Montréal resident Ria Mae, whose song “Clothes Off” – co-written with fellow Haligonian and SOCAN member Classified – was a huge hit this year.
“SOCAN is giving us backing off their shirts,” said Sheila Hamilton, Executive Director of Unison Benevolent Fund. “Contributing all proceeds from sales of their cool merchandise to Unison means that more musicians who might be struggling with health or financial needs will be able to get by.”
“Music is unconditional in its love,” said Andrew Berthoff, SOCAN Chief Communications & Marketing Officer. ” Music ♥’s Everybody is a universal message that we hope all people, regardless of their musical preferences, will want to show off, while helping musicians and music industry professionals in need.”
The first pieces include Music ♥’s Everybody hoodies and shirts, plus some cool “SOCAN 90” gear. Campaign-style buttons are thrown in free with every purchase.
SOCAN worked with the turnkey ecommerce merchandise company Kill The 8 of Toronto to design the products. New items will be introduced regularly. Kill The 8 specializes in creating swag for musicians, including SOCAN members Sam Roberts Band, USS and Lights.

Good morning!
Hello
Good morning! Neat article this morning, Garfield!
Good morning or afternoon, as applicable.
Hah! I got a lying “you’re posting too fast”! Not only was I not (1st post), but the system posted my post anyway. Post.
Good {$part_of_day}, people.
it is morning here for sure, yawn!
staring down a long list of to do’s while I dive into the mug-o-tea.
Far to late for gift giving from the Music Hearts Everybody but I support the idea for sure! If they had have rolled this out a month ago my R3Secret Santa shopping would have been much different …
Whaddaya mean too late for gift giving, I haven’t even started my shopping yet.
I don’t like that kind of stress. I am waiting for one package still and it is scratching the back of my brain too much.
I had packages arrive today. Which means I have spent most of my day playing on the PS4 and failing to resist cookies that were meant to be for my birthday (thank you)
Can you tell the console has taken over the power outlet once used by my lamp so my typing is worse.
Xmas shopping…I guess I should start that too. I have started thinking of ideas this week at least. hehe
I am waiting for an item to arrive before I can send off my Secret Santa gift
Speaking of putting things off, the snow finally convinced me it was getting Christmassy enough to listen to the Christmas playlist. It’s pretty great! Just some minor feedback:
1) Great Lakes Swimmers “Hang a String of Lights” is on there twice
2) I don’t get the Christmas connection with City and Colour’s “Thirst”
3) The omission of the Stars cover of Fairytale of New York invalidates the entire enterprise.
I removed the extra copy of “Hang a String of Lights” and added “Fairytale of New York” even though I am trying to avoid that song (no matter the artist)
Because of the naughty word? I’m sure somebody’s done a cleaned up version.
…although not Stars 😛
The swearing doesn’t bother me, I’m just not a fan of the song
Yay, parcels that I have sent are arriving safely 🙂
I was on the front porch this morning putting out decorations when the postie arrived with cards and a positive comment on the non traditional christmas tunes I was blasting.
Thanks to all those CanCon artists who add to the fun and festivities!
Now I must march off to work.
I just went out for a bit to look for something for my Secret Santa recipient and partially failed. I didn’t get anything but I have a better idea now. Now to see if I can get it and get it to them in a timely fashion.
