Hello and welcome to this week’s new Music Thursday. You can find my selections below or if that isn’t enough new music for you why not head over to out New Music page to see the full list of this week’s releases on Band Camp or if you would like to keep track of some future Canadian releases you can check out our new Music Release Schedule page even if it is just to make corrections 😀 .
I don’t usually write any comments about the music I offer in these posts but I felt I should explain my choice for the first album, “I Think You’ve Gone Mad (Or the Sins of the Father)” by Toronto-based hip-hop artist Sean Leon, with a question. Do you think it is worth the $100 being asked for the 20 track album?
Next we have “i work out now and i’m writing a new story of myself, or, i did these in my bedroom after school” by North Vancouvers own future star aka Celina Okay and CB Ellism
The third and final selection, from Montreal’s Me, You, and My Metronome, is titled suitcase nation.
What did I get wrong, who should I have included, who should I have left out, let me know in the comments. And if you have made it this far, thank you, you are literally the reason I get out of bed in the morning, and to those that don’t make it to the end 😛 .
Sadly I’m blocked from all of these at work so I can’t even comment about them.
Good morning! I didn’t love Sean Leon or Future Star, but might have to give Me, You, and My Metronome another listen. So having said that, no, I wouldn’t pay $100 for Sean Leon’s 20-track album.
It does raise an interesting question, is there an album you would pay $100 for?
Coming out tomorrow:
Begonia, Lady in Mind
Mother Mother, No Culture
Port Cities, self-titled
Teen Daze, Themes for Dying Earth
The Sadies, Northern Passages
The Treble, Modernaires (Cadence Music)
*Garf’s handy calendar told me so
Hi. Is everything tickediboo?
Tickediboo here.
I always wondered how you spelled that! Tickediboo here too.
Good morning!
$100 for real? The answer to your question is no not worth it. The answer to Janet’s question, I might for a rare vinyl of a beloved album. Probably not but that is when I would consider it.
@Wynnzie, sorry, I just looked and none of them are on soundcloud.
@Janet, I hadn’t listened to the Sean Leon release before I posted it, doing so purely for the $100 question, Now that I have tried it I am regretting it a bit.
@DBS, How did opening night go?
@Benoit, Hello
I think it’s worth posting based on the $100 price tag alone. Though it’s not what I’m going to spend my money on, I hope he gets a few takers!
@Garf – Opening night went well. One of my main tasks is to ring the phone at the appropriate time. We have that timing worked out pretty well now. 3 more shows to go!
Good morning everyone!
Hello Justin! How goes the runner’s high?
I watched this earlier today
But we all know I am more about this
Those are fantastic Garf! I enjoyed the music in them as well.
Hey Darbar! I’ve run 43.7km this week (since Sunday) so far, so going pretty well! Glad I have good rain gear. It’s hard to get out the door but once moving, pretty good.
I still think you runners are crazy but good for you.
“It’s hard to get out the door but once moving, pretty good.” That is how it is for a lot of things I have found.
Elton John to offer new vinyl subscription service
From April the rocket man himself Elton John is to offer punters a new vinyl record subscription service.
Experience Vinyl, which also boasts Quincy Jones, Talib Kweli, George Clinton and Sean Lennon among its initial curators, will offer subscribers one of the artist’s favourite albums, along with a personalized commentary, the artist’s top ten albums list and access to their store.
It will set you back $30 (about £24) a month but at least you’ll know which records Elt (or Quincy or whoever) waxes lyrical about…Oh and you’ll be back in the cool club.
That subscription service sounds cool, especially if you’re into collecting vinyl.
I would like to collect everything that Paper Bag Records put’s out on their new Vintage label because I think it would be interesting to have a complete set of a single label but lack of finances is stopping me
I have just had a look at the collection page to see that End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story by The Dears is already sold out even though it is still in pre-order

“cool club” on monthly installments or $100 for Sean Leon?
neither
all I have time to do is shovel these days!
but what will you listen too on your hipster portable record player* while you shovel (snow I hope)
*for the record (ha record) I don’t think she has one of these.
record amounts of snowfall but no record player … or rather the player that I thought worked does not so it is back in the basement pending access to the car to take it away.
I looked at Vinyl Me subscription service at one point. As a gift that might be cool.
We have had a couple days of extreme cold again but the temp is rapidly on the rise and will be melting in a couple days. Wild swings in the weather has been crazy.
I am listening to the new Louise Burns today. Very enjoyable.
I am also looking at this so I remember that there will be life after Winter

Have you listened to Rose Cousins new album yet? It is also quite enjoyable.

I should book some camping at national parks.
I agree you should book sooner than later. I imagine that with the free Discovery Passes there will be a lot of people out there this year. This is good but this is also bad if you know what I mean.
Rose Cousins could be next … thanks:)
And I was just checking out another new album and it is delightful. Frozen in Time by Lindy Vopnfjord (love his name).

I just got an email from Vinyl Den for another vinyl subscription. Hmmm.
Parks will be crazy this summer and yes that is good and bad. I need to pick a date and pick a park. Or I pick a park and find the dates. Whichever, I better get on it soon.
Vinyl Den was an old email that I just happened to click on by accident. Haha!
I got distracted here

I have just been looking at the cost of flights to Vancouver, I am now very sad.
on a completely unrelated note does anyone want to buy a human kidney?
Sorry Garf. Were you hoping to get to The Smugglers?
No, I was hoping to get out there next year but I’ll have to start saving if I have any chance
I’m going to go to bed and sulk
g’night
