With summer just around the corner for those of us in the Northern hemisphere music fans start turning their minds towards the forthcoming festivals.
From the larger, multi-day, events that take place in multiple venues like NxNE in Toronto and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival to the one-day single location events such as Love & Records in Lethbridge and the CBC Music Festival in Toronto we do seem to love coming together to enjoy music on mass.
Do you enjoy attending music festivals, if yes which ones are your favourites and, if no what puts you off them and what, if anything, could change your mind?

G’day! I”m pretty much over festivals, getting old, often I find too much is way too much, etc. THE SOUND VOLUME! However, I may well get a pass for Ottawa Rock Xplosion (or whatever), where The Smugglers will play, but outside of that, I’ll be skipping over all of them until a small, one day fest in mid-September. Same as the last two years, I’ll go to Sandbanks Provincial Park for http://www.sandbanksmusicfest.com/.
Hello
Hey, garf. How are things on your, farther-than-we-from-Donald-Trump, side of The Pond?
Hi Benoit,
Most people here are busy trying to ignore the forthcoming elections both ours and the one over in France.
On a personal note I wish I was a better writer.
How is life in Ottawa?
Good morning!
Hello hello!
Life in Ottawa is ordinary. About which one can’t complain.
Spring is reluctantly here, tomorrow’s supposed to go nuts though: 26 C, humidex 33. We’ll see.
I suppose the most bother some thing here, manner of speaking, is all the Trumps threats and bombast, which are going to disrupt things. (Also, unrelated but…, I heard today that (US) Wall Street is not very impressed by his promise to bring corporate tax rate from 35% down to 15%: that’s yuge, so how will things get paid for?)
We are due to have a high of 7°c today and a low of 4°c (feeling like 1°c) over night
Garf: geez, that’s pretty much North Sea weather, in’nit?
Also, I’ve posted on Facebook about filmmaker Jonathan Demme’s death.
Dr. Lecter…
Dr. Lecter…
Dr. Lector…
So, Kevin O’Leary has dropped out of the Conservative leadership race and endorsed Maxime Bernier
Garf, that’s the same weather as we’re having right now
and damp and grey
Us too, it’s been rainy and chilly here too. Though it will be 33 here on Saturday. Ahh, springtime in DC.
If it got up to 33 here for a day or so people would start panicking

Here is our local BBC weather report
Note to self: Move to Tynemouth
why?
It’s cold and full of horrible English people
Hi all. I thought I should check in.
There are many festivals I would like to get to and many that I hope to get to. I will be volunteering for Regina Folk Fest and I plan to go to Gateway Festival in Bengough. I am interested in Ness Creek Festival, All Folk’d Up and really hoping to get to Interstellar Rodeo in Winnipeg.
I like the cold, and horrible English people 🙂
oh in that case welcome aboard
Hello Darbar!
Hi Janet! 🙂
All folk’d up looks interesting. Regina is a complete dud this year, IMO.
One of the most interesting is the Bear Creek Festival. Unfortunately, it’s in Grand Prairie, which is a bit of a drive.
I’m looking at going to Brandon for the good ol’ BFMaAF, because Richard Thompson is playing there, and it’s probably the closest he’ll ever be to me on a tour, and he’s in his 70’s now, so who knows if another opportunity will arise…
Also notice the Jazz Fest here has some interesting stuff, at the free stages, too: Hawksley Workman, Tami Neilson, Delhi 2 Dublin
Hi Darbar
I would love to attend Field Trip again this year but I will just have to make do with the Canada Day party in London
Hi Garf!
@krib – I should check out S’toon Jazz Fest. Michael Franti will be back again as well. I am still waiting for the money to fall from the sky so I can do all the music festivals my little heart desires.
I’m surprised Hawksley Workman is at the free stage. And he isn’t playing another night at a paid venue. Some performers do a set at the free stage but play another night at a venue
That seems strange. He must be getting money some how and shows nearby?
