Continuing their recent, highly successful Floating Through The Forest Tour performing as a trio, acclaimed Toronto-based folk-rockers Great Lake Swimmers have announced a string of dates this September in Ontario that promise unique live music experiences (see detailed schedule below).
The schedule kicks off on Sept. 9 when Great Lake Swimmers perform alongside Canadian novelist Nino Ricci at the Words In The Woods Festival in Dunedin, Ontario. The group will play songs from their catalogue directly inspired by Ricci’s writing, and both artists will participate in a Q&A following the reading/concert.
From there, Great Lake Swimmers will join the Festival of Small Halls series with three shows in the Ottawa area from Sept. 14-17, with Sept. 16 finding them headlining the Sandbanks Music Festival in Prince Edward County, alongside Lowest Of The Low, Inbreds, By Divine Right and others.
The band has also confirmed that work has begun on their seventh studio album slated for a 2018 release, the follow-up to 2015’s A Forest Of Arms. In keeping with Great Lake Swimmers tradition, they have sought out an unusual recording location, this time the decommissioned Bishop Cronyn Memorial Church in London ON. The space is also currently home to London’s El Sistema Aeolian non-profit youth music program, and Great Lake Swimmers will perform a charity concert at London’s Aeolian Hall on Nov. 11 to raise funds for this worthy cause.
On top of that, Great Lake Swimmers singer/songwriter Tony Dekker is part of The Thesis Project, which brings together musicians from disparate worlds to collaborate on limited edition singles. Dekker was paired with Scottish duo Kinbrae, and their four-song release is now available on 10″ vinyl in a handmade jacket bearing original artwork by Gregory Euclide.

I’m so bummed! I just found out that Weaves is coming to DC in October, and I’m going to be out of town, so I’ll miss them 🙁
Oh I hate when bad timing like that happens Janet!
Hiya HeyJon!!
To be fair, my October will include seeing Japandroids, Wolf Parade, and John K. Samson, so I really can’t complain too much.
You have some good shows coming your way!
I was disappointed that DJ Shub (formerly of A Tribe Called Red) won’t be coming to Regina Folk Fest this weekend. His father is having a complicated surgery and he wants to be with him. Understandable reason but damn. That was one of the few artists I was looking forward to.
There is quite a group of us going to Interstellar Rodeo in Winnipeg. I am very much looking forward to that.
The Interstellar lineup looked great this year, I’m sure you and your group will have fun!
Bummer about DJ Shub this weekend, but completely understandable as to why he’s not there.
I am so looking forward to it! It will be fantastic! RFF I am sure I will find some music that I enjoy but there isn’t much that excites me about it so far.
Sleepy time again. zzzzzz
You snore louder than I remember
Har har
I can hear you all the way over here
I will try to keep it down. :-p
Chat with ya tomorrow!
