Our playlist this week is all about new songs on our radar. Spotify has their Release Radar playlists and now we have an OurBasement Release Radar playlist. I hope to make this a regular playlist every couple of months. All the songs on the playlist today have been released in July or August. Some were released with an album and some singles in advance of an upcoming album or as a single on its own. Some of the songs are from artists we know and love such as Broken Social Scene, Stars and Arcade Fire. Some are from artists we have featured here at OurBasement or are artists that are new to us such as Smash Boom Pow and KNIFEY. They are all Canadian and while predominately indie pop/rock, there is a nice variety on there.
Go ahead and listen and enjoy some new music. Which tracks are your favourite?
hello
Good morning!
Hello hello! Great playlist this morning!
Good day all!
Earlier this year, the New Pornographers released its seventh album, Whiteout Conditions, which the bandmates performed in CBC Vancouver’s studio for a First Play Live. They also performed several older favourites, all in front of an intimate studio audience. Now you can hear those tracks for yourself in a radio special called Open Air with host Grant Lawrence.

Hi all! Thanks Janet. 🙂
I saw that post last night Garf. I look forward to hearing it.
@DBS, I saw you mention it on facebook yesreday and thought it was worth mentioning here for anyone that does not use social media
Host Grant Lawrence you say. That reminds me of someone we used to know… (harharhar)
I saw the First Play on Twitter, but haven’t checked it out yet, I’m excited to hear it!
I’m really liking the Smash Boom Pow song, I think it’s my favourite new discovery on the playlist. Metz and Walter TV are not my thing so much.
This is interesting

Good plan Garf. That name does sound familiar Benoit and I bet his voice will too. 😉
Interesting Janet. I enjoy that Metz tune myself. The KNIFEY tune is catchy and may be my fave new one.
I have to say there has been a lot of great songs released in less than 2 months! Love that.
I am off to Winnipeg this morning and need to get packed still. Have a great weekend if I don’t make it back!
Bum voyagee Dars!
Well, that was a cool video, thanks for sharing Garf!
Have fun at Interstellar Darbar!
safe travels Candy
For anyone in the Kicthener Waterloo area the Kramdens are playing the Riverfest Elora this weekend.
Is it really Friday already?!

something for the Vancouver folk
Lorde and the Strumbellas
The Stumbellas are going to be in this area in November, actually right before RAA and Yukon Blonde. Apparently if you want to see Canadian bands in the Washington DC area late October, early November is the time to do it.
@Janet cram it all in! You never know when they will or won’t be coming your way again.
I can’t really complain, I have seen RAA before. Curious about hearing Lorde live so hopefully that will happen one day. I will be in Vancouver for Arcade Fire in October too.
Checking in from the road. Cdn artists like to tour in the fall. It seems to be when they date come to the prairies as well
Hi Darbar! My turn to be home and you on the road. Have an amazing time this weekend. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures in music.
Thanks Morgana! It will be a time. 🙂
the clock says it is my time to eat and go to work …
I am going to listen to some Barr Brothers while I munch. Those are some folks I wish would come this way!
I am so excited for that album to come out! If you ever do get a chance to see them, take it! Have a good one!
