Aron D’Alesio – Aron D’Alesio
This record is a one-man show, featuring a one-man band who pieced it all together on his lonesome, from recording and playing each instrument to producing and mastering it — all within the confines of a windowless basement studio in Hamilton, ON, where he began work at night and ended when it turned to day.(Exclaim!)
Daniel Caesar – Freudian
In an interview with NOW, the 22-year-old described his mind state as “head in the clouds,” and that comes across in Freudian. It’s not an album of sweeping gestures, but rather an ambling, pleasant account of a 20-something falling in and out of love. It’s full of small moments, nuance and detail. Opening in the bedroom with Get You, a slow-burner duet with Kali Uchis, Caesar and his main producers, Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett, lay the groundwork for more love songs, with dreamy chords, honeyed melodies and unhurried grooves.(Now)
Joseph Shabason – Aytche
In 2017, with so-called Nu-Jazz in full view, saxophonist Joseph Shabason is solely pulling the thread left hanging by the marriage of minimalism and jazz in the previous century. His debut LP, Aytche, reveals this cross-pollination to be as fertile and captivating as ever, fitting as well– or better– into this decade as any other. Shabason builds a bridge off of the precipice his forbears established, skirting jazz, ambient, and even new age with the same deliberate genre-ambiguity that made their work so interesting.(Northern Transmissions)
Good morning!
Hello hello! I’m not familiar with any of the new releases this week, I’m excited to check them out.
Good morning. 🙂
New artists for me too Janet. Of the three, I like Joseph Shabason most. Chill ambient kind of stuff.
I think the Aron D’Alesio was my favourite, but I would totally listen to Joseph Shabason while I studied!
Morning,
loweeda mentioned something about “must see” concerts on FB this morning. Now I’m listening to Peter Gabriel…
Morning krib. I am still pondering on that. I get how that goes. Enjoy!
Beats Antique are high on my list. I should have gone to see them last June at Red Rocks as going to a show there is high on my list as well. Sigh. MIssed that opportunity.
Hello
Hi Garf. How was the check up?
It was very quick and now I am on a repeat prescription so I don’t need to speak to a doctor for 3 months.
She tried to push the 30mins of exercise a day cures depression (which is why we never see depressed athletes*)
*he says sarcastically
Well it may not cure but it can’t hurt right? Easier said than done though.
Regular contributions to OurBasement don’t count as exercise?
@Janet, you are thinking of exorcise
@DBS, I know I need to move more but I have never been the type that would go for a walk just for the sake of it. (My excuse for not collecting my meds today is so that I have a reason to go out on Monday)
I have never been an exercise just for the sake of exercise type person either. I needed a sport or dance or something. I do enjoy nature hikes with my camera and getting back on my bike has been good. Biking is a lot easier on my body than walking. Walking to pick up something from the store works though.
the other thing is that the self destructive behaviour stems from the depression not the other way around
enough about me, how is your day going
?
Fast Romantics are headed back out on tour with the Elwins in the fall: http://www.getloved.org/.
I’m sad they won’t be headed my way, so my day just got a little worse? Not that it’s bad, I’m just bummed I won’t get to see them.

I am aware it more complicated than just go for a walk. Whatever helps though.
My day has been alright. I have been busy and am in need of a rest. It is a good stuff busy though so I am good with that.
@DBS, I know, that was me venting about the doctor not you
Gotcha. I just didn’t want to add to the frustration. We are good.
always
😀
I am working on tomorrow’s playlist. Are there any Cdn indie bands you confuse with each other? Just for whatever reason, name, genre or something that mixes them up in your head.
I would often confuse Holy Fuck and Fucked Up in my head.
Thanks Garf! Adding them to the list. 😀
