BreakOut West was in Edmonton this past weekend, Sept 13-17th, 2017 and the winners of the Western Canadian Music Awards were announced. Below is a list of the nominees with the winners in red print. Andy Shauf’s The Party continues to do well and he pulled in 3 awards. The Dead South’s viral video In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company, garnered Zach Wilson a Video Director of the Year Award. You can find that video at the end of the post. The playlist this week features the winners but I pulled up the nominee playlist that I had made in the spring if you want to check that out too.
BreakOut West will be in Kelowna next year Oct 10-14, 2018. I have had great fun at the ones held in Regina so I highly encourage you to go if they hold one near you. So much great Western Canadian talent just waiting for you to discover.

Good morning!
Greetings and salutations!
Heyho! Friday Morning Cartunes is, as always, different. What a show!
Hello
Hmm. Just got a “failure to connect” because of expired certificate. Things sem normal now.
Hey, will you look at that, it’s almost 3:30 an I’m still awake. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the large americano I had at lunch.
Garf, I’m sure those aren’t related at all, it’s not like an americano has a lot of caffeine or anything
Yeah, it’s not like it had at least 2 shots of coffee in it or the cup was so big it had 2 handles.
Oh yeah, I’m sure that is a coincidence.
I think it was the blueberry muffin
Morning all! I could use an Ameircano right now. I am having a sick day today and am home with a cold. Not too bad right now in the early stages but my head is foggy.
Playing for Change Day is tomorrow. I have put months of work into it and would really like to be there for it.
I hope you’re feeling better really soon, Darbar!
Thanks Janet! Me too 🙂
@DBS, is Sweet Bakery any good?
I haven’t tried it Garf.
you can tell me what they are like in about 40 minutes 🙂
What have you done?
wait and see
don’t worry, it’s paid for
Aww Garf. Thanks
we have to keep our staff fit an healthy
Haha well healthy anyways…
if this works I will have a back up plan for secret santa
That would be a good back up plan I think.
I just need to find someone on skipthedishes that deliver wine, chocolate, and fuzzy slippers. No idea what to send if it’s a woman.
Invite your friends to order through SkipTheDishes, using your unique link below, and you will each receive a $7 credit when they place their first order.
cough cough https://www.skipthedishes.com/r/HT7xyjVjkZ
Haha! Nice Garf. I have heard of Skip the Dishes but never tried it out. Thanks for the link.
I hear SkipTheDishes advertise a bit on the radio station I listen to out of Edmonton, but I had no idea they weren’t just a local Edmonton thing.
Sultan, your foods drive, has collected your order and should be with you in about 7 minutes
@Janet, they advertise in CBC News as well
they just turned off broad street and onto dewdney avenue
I’m getting far too excited about this
I got my delivery! Thanks so much Garf!! 😀
let me know what it is like so I can leave a review
what is the soup?
I will let you know soon. The biscuit that came with it is delicious!
Garf – you’re a very good friend to take care of a sick friend across an ocean!
I so agree Janet. It is much appreciated. 🙂
The soup is yummy. It’s a spicy chicken of some sort with red pepper in it that I should know the name of. It’s very very tasty. They gave me a fork instead of a spoon which wasn’t helpful. Even sent some jelly for the delicious biscuit. Yum!
I was hoping it would be a chicken soup
@Janet, in all honesty it is as much about me seeing if it can be done as being nice. If you ever meet former R3 host Lisa C ask her about the coffee
Did you get a coffee DBS?
Yes the coffee was with it. The coffee wasn’t the highlight but it does the trick.
The coffee was a red eye
My head is less foggy.
Good 🙂
Glad your head is less foggy!
Maybe your fog is less heady?
g’night folks, have a great weekend
You too Garf!
*Less foggy but slow
Pretty cool, The Dead South. Too bad their tour’s mostly in Europe, and Alberta!
They have been to Ontario in the past. Maybe they will head back again someday.
