Gord Downie – Introduce Yerself
On his final album, Introduce Yerself, the late singer-lyricist addresses the people and places that meant the most to him, among them his bandmates, Lake Ontario, his Indigenous acquaintances, his children, even his first girlfriend. This isn’t the oblique poet his fans have come to know; his words are neither fancy nor cryptic. More personal than philosophic, he has left the meditations on mortality for others to do.(The Globe And Mail)
Majid Jordan – The Space Between
Sitting down for a 20-minute conversation, Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman talked about album’s title & how every track has a big cohesiveness in track sequence. “This whole thing [album] is seamless. I did all the transitions. It flows, you’re not supposed to know when track 3 ends and when track 4 finishes,” Jordan said. “It’s the space between.”(HNHH)
Petra Glynt – This Trip
On new album This Trip, experimental pop artist Alexandra Mackenzie, aka Petra Glynt, is honest about her intentions. The album’s cover, drawn by Mackenzie herself, is a dazzling, Technicolor harbinger of the news: “R.I.P. Patriarchy,” a tombstone reads. But “Rest in Peace” is a mere formality, and when first track “Propaganda” hits, it is clear that the plan is to dance on the grave.(Exclaim!)
The Deep Dark Woods – Yarrow
Yarrow, the first album from the Deep Dark Woods since 2013, shows the trad-folk band feeling positively reenergized yet tempered. After taking a four-year hiatus, the Saskatoon trio give LP number six an invigorating new restoration that finds them sounding more patient, intricate and contemplative than they’ve ever been.(Exclaim!)
Good morning!
Hello to you…
Thanks for the new music.
The film footage for the Deep Flooding Waters is pretty cool.
Oh and hello
Hello hello!
hello
Fun show at House of Targ last night. The Courtneys from Van (or thereabouts) were accompanied by Seattle’s Versing, a male band (poppy rocky, loud — they offered earplugs!). The openers were Ottawa’s Sparklesaurus.
All three bands were really good, Versing being noteworthy in particular, because I knew nothing about them. The Courtneys were as you’d expect, equal to themselves. And Sparkle., a mostly young female band, didn’t disappoint; my third time hearing them and I’m still impressed.
Great show, varied beers, and Targ’s makes perogies! (Many plates were sold last night, one of them to me.)
Courtneys are headed to Windsor, we’ll likely miss them as the TUNNEL is closed for repairs and the BRIDGE f**king sucks.
Hi gang.
I am looking forward to hearing Gord’s Introduce Yerself. I am sure there will be some emotions while listening.
I just saw that Liam Corcoran (formerly of Two Hours Traffic) is releasing a solo album next week. CBC has a stream of it.
Liam Corcoran – Nevahland (Pigeon Row)
Well that is cool about Liam Corcoran. I look forward to giving it a listen.
That Deep Flooding Waters video was also cool.

oh helloooooooo!
Had a good visit with Grant last night. It was an interesting night. Part of a book-reading thing from some kind of club at the University. Fairly small venue, but a good time.
And I finally have a copy of Dirty Windshields to read
One thing I learned last night is that most authors really shouldn’t get up and read their own stuff.
Not sure if it’s that they’re tentative about reading in front of people, or if they just aren’t very good at it.
A little of both, I think.
Grant is the exception, of course, because of his experience behind a mic.
And one other woman who read at the open mike afterward.
yes. hence my statement “because of his experience behind a mic”
but holy cow it showed last night.
I think his “experience behind a mic” came from an ability to tell a story rather than the other way around. Remember that he started on R3 by telling stories from his life on the road over the phone and if that hadn’t gone well he might not have ended up hosting.
which in turn came from being behind a mic as the singer of the Smugglers
singer?
