This week’s playlist isn’t all Canadian Indie music but it is brought to us by two Canadian Indie bands. Ahead of their joint Canadian Prairie Winter tour, Partner team up with Montrealers Duchess Says to curate a Spotify Winter playlist to get you in the mood, shared by Exclaim here.
Partner’s debut album In Search of Lost Time mixed by Grammy award winner Chris Shaw (Weezer, Public Enemy, Sum 41).
Partner is the “mature” effort of two best friends named Josée Caron and Lucy Niles. Borne of their bizarre and fortuitous friendship, Partner confidently harnesses the infinite power of Rock to explore a variety of niche yet strangely universal themes. Self described as post-classic-rock.
The two met while attending Mount Allison University in small town Sackville, New Brunswick, on Canada’s East Coast. The duo played in numerous Sackville bands together over their University years (Yellowteeth, The Mouthbreathers and the aptly named hardcore band Go Get Fucked). Around late 2014 the idea of Partner came to fruition.
Influenced by acts as varied as Melissa Etheridge, Ween, kd lang, and Prince, Partner delivers a refreshing and vital twist on a classic, prompting you to re-think what you thought was possible in Rock.
Partner relocated to Windsor ON at the beginning of 2016. After a freakishly productive year of writing, recording, and touring, Partner have released their debut to the world, titled In Search of Lost Time (September 08, 2017). Their enthusiastic and action-packed live set has led to them being named the “best new band in Canada” in the Globe and Mail.
Partner is genre-defying and terrifying: part musical act, part teenage diary, and 100% queer.

And for some more Canadian content, I will add a bonus playlist I made. I have been involved with the community theater play The Miracle Worker and am in the middle of that production. This playlist used that as my theme.
Good day. A story out of Derby: how to make a Christmas tree look all sad, despite being 25-30 feet tall.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-42180763
hello
Good morning!
http://www.thejournal.co.uk/news/north-east-news/stanley-christmas-tree-taken-down-4399045
Yeah, 240 volts! — though you’d think everyone in England would know about that, no? (Here, we ordinary households only have 240 v service for large appliances like stoves. All plugs and standard stuff is 120-130 volts, which is much, much less dangerous than 240.)
I have been hit with 240v a few times and it never did me any harm
I couldn’t sleep one night so decided to dismantle my bedside lamp, after the first spark I decided to unplug it
Damned good idea, unplugging it.
Note, however, that being hit by 240 and it not doing you any harm is absence of proof — a very weak argument.
But I’m not saying it’s like a high voltage power line, nono. Just that it’s more likely to successfully electrocute you. After which you couldn’t make that argument any more!
Meanwhile, Friday Morning Cartunes is on CKCU, and glorious as usual. Breakfast calls. Well, my making breakfast anyway…
I wasn’t saying it is a good idea, just that I have done stupid things
having said that 240v isn’t that bad because we only have 20amp mains and our plugs are fused as well depending on their use (lamps 3amps, to heaters at 13amps)
Ah. I sit more informed.
Hello hello! Happy Friday!
Hi Janet
Hello janet!
I’m going to see if I can get tickets to Partner in a couple of weeks, I think I’d like to check them out!
@Janet, you should try for an interview 🙂
Garfield, I”m struggling enough with coming up with the questions for The Low Joy Ceiling, I can’t imagine what would happen if I tried for a face to face interview! 🙂
The Partner album is pretty good. I would check them out if you can.
Yort loooooves Partner.
@Janet, I want to say “just have a conversation with them and ask the questions you want to hear answers to” but I don’t want to push you so I won’t.
But it might help with the interview you already have.
For those of you who are aware of that home invasion against my father, three years ago almost, here is the penultimate upshot on the trial — the jury’s still out, and sequestered, that’s why it’s not the final word. Warning: it’s serious, the guy’s even badder than I thought. Sensitive souls do not read.

WOW!
Who knows what eeeeevil lurks in the hearts of men?… The Shadow knows…
No, but seriously! What a violent person! Etc., etc.
And think of this, about this jury: As was the case with the last one, but in this case it’s even bigger, the jury members are unaware of [the] recent 3 X murder convictions of this accused, and will find out about those only after they have rendered the verdict in this case. (The jury in the last one was much impressed in learning of the assault on my father, after they had convicted the accused. Their case was 2007; my dad’s, end 2015)
Wow indeed! I am glad he was caught before he could get to any others on his list.
WOW squared…
Not much to say but wow! I’m glad he didn’t get to any others on the list, and Benoit, your dad’s resiliency is inspiring. I hope the sequestered jury renders the correct verdict.
I was thinking that the defence lawyer’s argument about the plastic bag (and I don’t envy her this case) was just one shy of pleading selling plastic bags like that to kids as ‘space helmets’ (that was a bit I once heard a comic do, the dishonest salesman!)
Out. Later!
It is now “later”.
welcome back
Why thank you. I was afraid there might not be any room.
we saved a seat for you
Canada Live, which broadcasts live on CBC R1 at 2 p.m. ET today, is an in-studio concert by Ria Mae and band. Recommended. Sorta soul pop. Real good, it’s an hour-long show.
Sounds Like Friday Night, currently on BBC 1, is a live music series presented by Greg James and Dotty, with co-host Paloma Faith. Rita Ora, Paloma Faith and Royal Blood perform live in the studio.
Well, I’m off again, this time to pick up my car at the shop. Ciao!
Someone posted to YouTube highlights from the John Mann benefit concert held in Vancouver last month. The sound quality isn’t great, but I got caught up in watching it, and seeing musicians come together to support John.

I wonder if CMac is doing the R3 Secret Santa again this year (I’m too scared to ask her)
I went to ask CMac if she was going to do the secret santa again this year but I see the last message I sent here was asking the same question last year
The jury has found Ian Bush guilty on all counts, the worst being attempted murder. Good afternoon or night, as appropriate.
It’s nice to see that every once in a while justice gets served.
g’night Benoit
Glad to hear they found him guilty!
Garf, I assumed no at this point
@DBS, I fear you are right. And of course it would be the first time that I am prepared for it.
Have a great weekend everyone!
What she said
Next week I will probably be on here more. Crazy days!
Have a good one all!
yeah, how dare you have a life!
@b from o I am not going to read the whole story because I am feeling like a ripe piece of fruit today; easily bruised that is.
I will say that I am sending your Dad all the supportive strength I can muster for him! It may sound small and or strange but give him a big hug from this stranger.
morgana, would if I could. The fact is that he died not quite three years ago, of unrelated causes — old age, really — but after a really full life, and he was ready to go. Also, the upshot of the home invasion (which ticked him off, didn’t scare him!) was that he got some nice attention in the last couple of months. Interviewed, invited into someone’s box at a Senators’ game, etc.
Thanks bunches in any case, eh?
Got to go, ciao all!
