I thought I would have a quick look online to see what album releases were due out this week. But while I failed to find any albums, I did come across a couple of singles that came out this week.
We start with the LA based Canadian singer-songwriter Esthero with her version of You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch with Noise Club entitled GRNCH.
For the second of out two offerings today it is an unlikely alliance between the US rapper D.R.A.M. rocker Neil Young who have teamed up to give us ‘Campfire’. The narrative-heavy song deals with the stories of people in underprivileged positions.
The track apears on Bright: The Album which is the soundtrack to the latest Will Smith film.
Good morning!
In that last item, is it the guy with the blue-gray, leprous face singin’? And good morning…
Hello hello!
Hi Janet! How are things?
@BfO, yeah, sure, why not
Hello
Things are good! I bought myself an early Christmas present, and have been listening to Vinyl Cafe Christmas stories this week.
On Sunday, CBC played the last show that Stuart McLean ever gave, a show that wasn’t due to be recorded — but his producer went “what the hell” and turned on the recorder, knowing it was the last show for a while. Turned out to be for ever.
My Christmas gift to myself was a CBC R3 mug
@BfO, I didn’t know that it wasn’t due to be recorded
They released it as a podcast too. Listening to it made me both happy and sad.
I think it’ll be the last item on *q* this morning: an interview with Chad Vangaalen (one of his tunes is playing just before the hour, now. The item will be around 11:15, sez Tom Power.)
Incidentally: I heard Esthero live really early on, at The Black Sheep I think (but it could have been elsewhere), sometime before the (false, or ‘odometer’) turn of the millenium, 2000.
Slight correction, CVG starts at 10 after the hour, = 20 minutes before the end of the podcast
CVG, asked if he has a cellphone, answered no. Do you have a phone at all? went Tom. No, came back the reply.
Oh man, you couldn’t believe how jealous I am of you, enthused Tom.
You wouldn’t believe how many people tell me that, when I tell ’em, replied CVG.
(Not completely quoted, but close enough.)
I have a phone, I just don’t give the number out
All I have is a landline, and my phone sits behind an answering machine. I love it, given that most of the calls I get are from telemarketers. My message is super short, so people who know me just wait a second, say hi, and I pick up if I’m home. Otherwise, it’s a free answering service…
I have a phone, but it never rings. Every once in a while, I’ll get a text from a friend, but that’s it.
Janet, yeah, it’s a common paradox now, that the “phone” is rarely used for phoning.
Texting, selfies, a ‘Bic’ to wave at shows, a flashlight…
our landline has an answering machine as well
It was one of my sisters who bought it for me some Xmas, a little fed up with my being not there, and then what? It was second-hand, reconditioned, and cost her 10 dollars. We laughed.
Huh. I thought I edited out that extra s.
“mys sisters” are yous practising ya Brooklyn Accent
hey! Vassamattafehyou!
Whatsacumminago?
That press conference with Trudeau was like watching the BBC, so many repeats
I didn’t see it, what was Trudeau giving a press conference on?
Yous guys are hilarious.
@Janet, Trudeau violated ethics laws with visits to Aga Khan’s island, commissioner rules
Thanks for the update, Garf!
Hi kids!
Hi Mom!
Hi Darbar!
I have a whole half of an hour to recover from grocery shopping and errands before I head out to the chiropractor.
Someone tell me something funny to fortify me so I can trek out into the snow!
I really should at least say hello before I start making demands
“Helloooo”
@darbar thanks for letting me use your Spotify friends list to add some of them to my list. I am still not able to add friends any other way.
Morgana – I don’t know if it’s funny or not, but my friend’s 8-year-old believes I’m friends with Santa because I used to live in Canada where there is a lot of snow. She asked me to hand deliver her letter to him this year.
@Janet, wait, you’re not *quietly throws Santa letter into the trash*
@janet I would say it is very sweet to be entrusted with such a heartfelt task. Our days of notes to/from Santa are behind us which is kind of sad. I find that kind of magic heartwarming.
Thank goodness we still have Canadian Indie weird Christmas tunes and Vinyl Cafe repeats.
@Janet are you going to mail it to Santa so that he writes back?
No note to Santa from Suki this year?
Well, I just checked the post and there is an envelope addressed to, “Suki’s Family”
not from me (I wish I had thought of that)
next year 😉
OK, time for me to trudge through the snow to the chiropractor. Maybe he can get me straightened out …
I already have stuff to send over
Morgana – The silly US postal service doesn’t send replies to kids, so I told her I would make sure it gets there, and then wrote her back myself. I’m trying to keep that magic alive as long as I can 🙂
Garf – if you send me your letter, I’ll make sure Santa gets it.
@Janet, I don’t think he would want it now, not with the added egg shells and tea stains. Plus I haven’t been a good boy this year (and an even worse girl)
Garf – maybe next year, then.
I’m headed out as well! Talk to you tomorrow!
and I am ready to go to sleep
