Tis the season to listen to a lot of great Canadian Indie Christmas music! This is another playlist that began back on the CBC website and then I brought what I could over to Spotify. I shared it last Christmas season and got some suggestions for a few tracks to add. I found some more tracks this year and Morgana pointed out a few more tracks for me to add and Janet made sure I had The Matinee’s Star Wars Christmas on there. I very much appreciate getting people’s suggestions for the playlists. When I am the one curating the playlist, they become very biased to my own taste. Getting suggestions from others helps add music that others want to hear too. I am very open for suggestions on tracks you would like added to the playlist. Do you have a Christmas or Anti-Christmas song by a Canadian artist (indie preferably) that you would like added to this playlist? Songs can still be added.
For some more seasonal music you can head to The Line of Best Fit where they have their download of Ho! Ho! Ho! Canada 9 featuring seasonal selections from The Burning Hell, Partner and more available. Zunior has their holiday album for 2017 ready for download. You can purchase that and some of the past years albums over at Zunior. Don’t forget to check out their Boxing Day sale as well.
Thanks for listening and may your holidays be merry and bright!
Merry Christmas in advance! I won’t be hanging around the computer today: expedition to the family cottage. I’m bringing my snowshoes… With a bit of snow in the forecast and gusty winds, it’s going to feel a lot like winter.
Merry Christmas Benoit! That sounds like a lovely expedition.
Good morning and Merry Christmas, all!
Hello hello! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the great playlist, Darbar! I’m loving all the Canadian Indie music!
Hello Russ and Janet! Happy listening. 😀
Speaking of the playlist, I just got to Merry Christmas Darling by Sharon Guderiet and Jared Robinson. Man, does she sound like Karen Carpenter to me! I was transported back to my childhood for a second there!
That’s awesome! Sharon is my lifelong friend and Karen Carpenter was definitely an inspiration of hers. 😀
She nailed it on that song, and now I’m going to discover more Sharon Gudereit!
hey ho!
I ground coffee at home to bring to work, and then left the tin on the counter…argh
have to go out and find some coffee, stat
Hate when I do things like that krib and fully understand needing coffee stat!
I hope you find your coffee, Krib!
Hello
Hiya Garf!
is the blog “party” still on later?
I know Morgana is planning on it. I am going to try my best. I am not sure where exactly I will be at that time.
I might have to nip to the shop to get some food and drink for that
I’m going to try too. I’m building gingerbread houses with some munchkins who think I know Santa this evening, but should be able to pop on for a bit.
I found coffee. crappy overly dark roast from the Mac’s, because the nearest actual coffee shop is >3 blocks away and I’m already leaving early today so have other stuff to do
but since I’m leaving early, I can make an Americano when I get home 🙂
Sometimes you just gotta get that caffeine in you. I hope you enjoy your Americano more later.
I tried the McD’s coffee once, just once
Good morning folks.
I have been out on two errands this morning and want to go back to bed now, especially with the lovely mellow way the playlist starts.
Instead I will make another tea and bundle up for the next outing all the while being propelled by the building energy of the holiday tunes today.
Thanks for the seasonal playlist @darbar.
Yes, I do plan on being here at my 5pm! I hope to meet as many of you as possible here.
I sure wish Purolator had OurBasements holiday playlist on it’s “we are experiencing longer waits than normal due to high volume of call” message ……………..
Just to clarify, we’re meeting up at 5pm PST tonight?
yes, that is the plan
I should be able to make it. I’m gingerbreading with kiddos at 5pm EST, and I’m hoping it won’t take three hours 🙂
unless it goes really well or really badly
Listening to that Christmas classic “Band on the Run”
it’s Tom Power’s fault for having an article on q about Wonderful Christmastime
I had to go remind myself that there’s less awful music from McCartney out there
Not a hater, actually; I think McCartney’s written some pretty great stuff. Not sure I’d put Wonderful Christmastime on that list, though
computers suck. really. they do
I should be able to manage 7pm at home.
My favourite Xmas music is not traditional songs. I added a few covers of those songs by Cdn artists but the original songs on the playlist are what I like the most. It is nice to hear some of the old favourites at times too, just not too much of it.
speaking of which, I have not gotten barenaked for the holidays yet
time to do that now
I just finished listening to God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Barenaked Ladies ft Sarah McLachlan. Pretty good version.
I’m with you, Darbar, I find the traditional songs overplayed, so hearing some new songs is always fun.
We tried to stay away from the traditional songs for this months podcast
Good Vibrations is one of the coolest songs ever made
makes you wonder what might’ve been if Brian Wilson hadn’t had the issues he did
I’m out for a bit! Talk to you again in a little bit!
happy holidaze… hope y’all get your festive freak on whichever way works best for you.
The housemate started watching My Little Pony recently so I bought a copy of Brent Hodge’s documentary A Brony Tale for him
that is a great gift for him @garfielduk
we have watched it too
I think he was worried that I would tease him about it so I started telling him who played which parts and what guests to expect in future episodes instead
mmm….Americano
Merry Christmas
Yay Fresh Ginger dropped by! Hiya!
Glad you got your Americano krib. Enjoy!
Good choice for your housemate Garf. The brony doc is a good one. My Little Pony is a well done show I hear. I like your Merry Christmas.
It was a good way of getting another Brent Hodge documentary in the house (to go with I Am Chris Farley) and I can make up a little for the less than legal way I watched it the first time (I think)
I suddenly remember playing around with stuff like that on another site, the name of which escapes me, and thought I would try it here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehfiQd7lcPY
Bonus points if you can name the man in the front row wearing the dark jacket
No idea.
hello hello!
where is that drink of mine …
@DBS, That is Norman Quentin Cook aka Fat Boy Slim
ahh cool.
HI there!!
@Morgana, What *hic* drink. I don’t seeeee annny drunks *hic*
I have my rum and eggnog over here.
Watching the final episode of Stranger Things
I have tea here
I have yet to try eggnog
thanks for leaving me some @garfielduk!
I found my rum and egg nog too @darbar
I made my own eggnog yesterday. the not eating sugar thing can be really hard at this time of year so i made the effort so i would have a treat too. I made it with local honey, farm fresh eggs and local and organic milk and cream. i assume the rum cancels out all of that goodness but there it is.
Stranger Things was fun to watch. I tried to watch a little of the inside scoop interviews that are on Netflix but I didn’t like it at all
The rum will have an anti-bacterial affect, right
I am sure it is delicious though. My sis in laws homemade eggnog is soo good but I don’t mind the store bought.
One day I will try cutting out sugar. I have to mentally prepare myself.
wait, Morgana isn’t eating sugar!? *runs of to get the chocolate out of Suki’s next care package*
rum is not my favourite of alcohols but i just don’t think gin or tequila would taste very good with the ‘nog
cutting out sugar is not easy but i personally feel way better without it. i do not like going out and trying to eat. it makes me feel like i am in that Portlandia episode where a couple is out for dinner and basically gets introduced to the chicken they are going to consume.
@garfielduk don’t worry, i can sniff it then share it. i get myself the 88% dark chocolate as it has very little sugar. a girl has to live a little;)
QUESTION – how do, or do you, explain this little group of international cannon music geeks group to others?
I was out having a cup of tea with a friend but said I had to be home by 5 but I wasn’t too sure what to say about why …
@Morgana, That’s OK, I only share the higher cocoa stuff any way and there is none in the package, yet.
I just say that I work on a music blog focused on Canadian artists
@ garfielduk 17:21 thank goodness for that last word!
17:23 hmmm, possibly I could say I “contribute” to said blog
@Morgana, you can say that because you do contribute. The theme of next months podcast can be linked back to something you said here (no spoilers)
It is a very hard thing to explain to others.
@darbar re ditching sugar; I am of the opinion that any change in ones life only really works if you decide it is the best choice for you. I don’t think there is any point and certainly no success when one makes changes because it is a fad to follow or what ever. not saying that is why you would make that choice, just saying one has to be in the right space to do it.
@darbar 17:29 an interest turned passion that came with fringe benefits of fabulous people?

some fun winter stuff from Nelson
It depends who I am talking to
the housemate (and anyone else that really knows me) I just call this The Blog
others, my Canadian or North American friends
@darbar did you read about that, “Last Night of Stars” album that I sent you last night that you used for #3 on the playlist
breaTH, that is the album name!
Sorry, I am still here.
I think I did but I don’t remember. It was late. hehe. It was hauntingly beautiful.
Regarding the sugar, I am getting closer and closer to being ready to make some changes. I know from quitting smoking that switch has to go in my head for it to work. I am not there yet with sugar but getting closer.
and I was feeling good because I never add sugar to anything
That was a very fun video!
I am a sugar addict to the extreme.
@darbar when you are there I am here as a resource if you like.
Glad you liked the video. Filmed here last winter.
The breaTH album is locals as well.
@garfielduk sounds like you and @darbar opposites when it comes to sugar
That video just reminded me why I miss Nelson.
But it wouldn’t matter where I live, I would want to be somewhere else in Canada
Very cool morgana. Thanks 😀
I just got in trouble for eating/drinking dessert before dinner.
Think Janet’s gingerbreading took longer than expected?
@Morgana, Tell her I say hi 🙂
Haha morgana.
@garfielduk
are you the restless sort?
morgana jr says hi right back:)
I just went to do a copy of a web page to show you what we are doing tonight but the web page has a different date than the tickets I have in my hands ….
https://www.evensi.ca/natasha-hall-erik-musseau-in-concert-sold-out-st-saviours/187823538
@Morgana, When I was a child I had 3 addresses I could call home but I would only ever use the word to describe one of the places I wasn’t staying at
The website is a bit confusing but I would go with Friday, Dec 22 not Friday, Dec 23.
Devin is showing me a Game Grumps video with Finn Wolfhard on it. That kid is pretty awesome.
@darbar I guess the gingerbread trumped our company. We will forgive her.
@Morgana, We Wil!? I mean, we will
This is the type of chocolate I usually ship to Canada
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Shopping/FindProducts.aspx?Query=J.%20D.%20Gross
It happens. I finished my rum and eggnog and have stuff to do. Cheers you guys!
Happy Holidays!!!
Have a great Christmas everybody
The deeper I get into the playlist the more I am enjoying it! Thanks again:)
I am going to give my mom another birthday phone call then head out to our show.
Have a wonderful weekend and all that holiday jazz.
Why are you here, don’t you have anything better to do today?
