Today’s post will be a little unusual in that it won’t be looking at music directly.
I want your feedback on OurBasement. What do we get right or wrong, what would you like to see us do more of and what would you like to see the back of. Do you have any ideas for new features?
Please let us know what you think in the comments below.
Hello
Please excuse the poor quality of today’s post but I am withou a computer at the moment. I will explain more when I have a real keyboard.
Hello, in any case. (HELLO, IN THE OTHER CASE.)
I just want to say I think OurBasement is doing fine. But I’m not sure of the goals of the site, or if we have any or want any other than promoting Canadian music
For now, it’s nice to have this slice of a site to counter some of the other stuff out there. It does fill the void of our former R3, albeit ever so slightly. But something is better than nothing! I still miss the old site and the playlists you could create. Not to bitch, but when they published the 103 songs of 2017, it seemed really dumb not to have it in a playlist format. I’ve heard some things about direction at CBC Music, and it is surprising at this point.
Do we have good stats? I don’t know, do we want them or need them? Do we have some goals for this?
Anyways I would just like to thank Garf for all the hard work that you put into this. I think without you it wouldn’t be what it is. And for now I’d say I’m very happy with it.
Hello hello!
I like that OurBasement provides a space for this community to discuss Canadian Indie music and whatever else comes to mind. I like coming here each morning and chatting with people.
I agree with Michael, it’s great that there is even a place for us to meet, and am grateful to Garf and Darbar for regularly providing content for us.
I do like hearing from musicians when they have music or information to share with us (i.e. when Terra Lightfoot shared her single), and when the blog has the opportunity to showcase the work of musicians.
Hello Everyone,
I’m back to lurking in the background. I thoroughly enjoyed time away from the computer from Dec 22 to today. The holidays were great for celebrating with family and the weather worked out for driving. I only had one nasty trip from Barrie to Scarborough & back Christmas Eve.
As Michael said I’m not aware of any goals or metrics to measure. I have been happy to hear / see what others are up to in their music lives and contribute my two cents when it is applicable.
I think all of you have been extraordinary in your dedication to this site and your knowledge of the Canadian music scene.
I enjoy hearing the songs when I can and the interviews are interesting.
Thank-you to Garf & Darbar and all other contributors.
what they said …
Well I can finally get on here. I was away from my computer this morning and then I couldn’t get on the site from my usual work computer. I hope I can fix that tomorrow.
Thanks for the positive feedback all. Garf is definitely the main one keeping this site going. I do love having a place to share my playlists and helping to promote our Canadian artists. I like that we have a place to chat about music or whatever else we want to. Those are my two main goals for the site: promoting and sharing Canadian music and chatting with the community of people that are interested in Canadian indie music and each other.
Here’s hoping I can get back on tomorrow!
Everyone has left but that is simply due to my tardiness;)
I am so grateful that I can come here and learn about new to me musicians and share my finds. This is possible in no small part to the individuals who come here with open minds and keep any judgements to themselves.
Many thanks for those who do a lot to keep this going as well as to those who do what they can with the same goal in mind.
Goals for 2018? Would it be fun to be able to share concert pics here? I don’t know if that is a huge deal technologically speaking but it could add an element of fun.
Guest features … well it would be fun if Grant made an appearance by way of a concert review …
Ummm, maybe it would be useful to ask these questions of R3’ers who have yet to join us here and find out what they would like to be a part of.
I’m happy. Are you happy?
I am somewhat happy with the site but I would like us to expand a little over the next 12 months (in random order).
Money
I don’t want to have adverts on the site (other than plugging the music) but we need to find a way for the site to pay for itself. I don’t want to make money from the site but it would be nice if it broke even.
Podcasts
I started the WRP for a few reasons, not least of which was to learn what goes into creating a podcast along with finding out if their was an interest for it. But mostly it is an excuse for me to play with audacity.
If we had a little extra cash to play with we might be able to pay someone to host a podcast for us more professionally or even expand into live streaming radio.
Interviews / Reviews
I would love for us to do more interviews and maybe start doing our own album reviews (I couldn’t find reviews for many of this weeks releases)
