hello
Goooood afternoon! (In your case.)
I didn’t watch the Globes, last night, but did click into them a few times: a sea of black.
It was helped by the fact men’s tuxedos are black (of course). Still, I think I didn’t see one ‘colour’ in the women’s gowns.
They were on way too late for me and I forgot to look them up this morning
Here, I just ran across this (17 of Seth Meyer’s best jokes), haven’t read it yet. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-42603822
I just did a quick scan of the red carpet photo line and I only saw 1 none Black/Dark dress

I usually watch the opening monologue on the youtubes
Hello hello! I did not watch the Golden Globes at all. But I did read that there was a lot of black worn, and that people now want Oprah to run for president. Which speaks to an interesting phenomenon occurring down here, where all of a sudden you just need to be rich and famous in order gain support for running for president.
Well it worked for Ronald Reagan years ago as well.
Darbar – that’s a good point, maybe not such a new trend after all 🙂
janet, it’s not really new: Ronald Regan; Aahnold in California. There are others. I’d say that the ‘famous’ aspect is more important than the ‘rich’ — apparently Trump did not put any of his own money into his campaign, save a 10 M$ loan repayable asap. Besides, campaigning for president (and the primaries) costs way more than a person usually has. Hence PACs and Superpacs… and billionaires…
No, fame’s the thing a ‘star’ can bring — that and being able to become a politician, of course.
…and, in Canada, Trudeau the current…
Benoit – yeah, I guess it’s not a new trend at all. The cost of running for office highlights my frustration with the entire system, when only the top tier of moneymakers can afford to enter the race, making whether or not they would actually be good at the job irrelevant. I like Oprah well enough, but I don’t want her running the country any more than I wanted the current president doing it.
….and it is a shame that not only must any candidate start really early, like what? 2 years beforehand?, but in addition, the powers-that-be sometimes prevent you from getting ahead, even though you’re supposedly on the same side. I’m looking at you, DNC…
That said, Canada’s not much better off with its winner-take-all, first-across-the-post system. Remember Trudeau’s Liberals’ promise to change the electoral system? Unsurprisingly, the whole notion’s been dropped as undoable, or something.
Off for a while.
no globes for me. i have never liked awards shows. do have fun discussing though.
anyone heard about the Spotify lawsuit?

happy monday morning. anyone want to come and shovel me out … literally!
because the method Junior wanted was Alternative Vote, which would more often than not lead to the Libs having even bigger majorities, because the Libs are everybody’s 2nd choice…
also, Michael Moore suggested Oprah run for president years ago, in the book Dude, Where’s My Country?
Interesting article on the Spotify thing. Thanks morgana.
Oh, I didn’t watch the Globe either. I might have to check out Oprah’s speech. It seems to have caused a stir.
Good day, Globeless on the Great Lakes.
I have only watched the opening monologue from the GGs

I can watch the Opera speech and listen to Wild Racoon!
Do you need a dog sitter?
According to my Mom my two go to albums as a kid were Joan Armatradings second album that is self titled and Simon and Garfunkel, the Sound of Silence. These were my favourite under five years of age albums that when I came across as a young adult I knew every word to all the songs and called my Mom to find out why. A little later as a kid I loved, “Free to Be You and Me”. Thank you Bruce and Carol Hart for being so creative and progressive during my youth.
I spend the weekend force feeding my fur girl bone broth with a syringe. She is eating some foods on her own again. A big relief!
this is one of the tracks I loved as a child (don’t ask me why)

Another favourite book of mine as a kid was this one;

I wonder if Wild Racoon would enjoy it as well?
I like the eye level @garfield.
morgana jr liked Moby and Canadian Brass as a wee sprog.
I am glad to hear she is eating a bit too.
I loved listening to my dad’s records when I was young. Yellow Submarine and Snoopy’s Bloody Red Baron and Jukebox Jive stick out in my mind though.
Another fan of Yellow Submarine here. As well as Anne Murray’s Hippo in the Bathtub.
I want a house hippo!
That is all.
I wondered where the second poem on the podcast came from. I heard it years ago and it just stuck with me.
I also remember
one fine morning in the middle of the night,
two dead men got up to fight,
back to back they faced each other,
drew their swords and shot the other
I know a different version of that one, Garf:
one dark night int he middle of the day
two dead boys went out to play
back to back they faced each other
drew their swords and shot each other
a deaf policeman heard the noise
and came to kill the two dead boys
how do I know this story is true?
I blind man saw it through a knot-hole in the barbed-wire fence
I found a few different versions online

No house hippo here, just hippo sized dust bunnies.
