It may be a day late but hey let’s keep on celebrating women anyway. Our playlist this week features a lot of great music from a lot of very talented Canadian women. Most of the tracks are from solo female artists but many are from bands with a strong female lead singer and a couple are instrumental tracks from female musicians.
“International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.”
I love what these talented women bring to the table and would love to see more women not only making music but working in the music industry. There has been a call for more gender parity on our stages at festivals as well. With all the talented women out there, it shouldn’t be too hard.
Searchlight Round 3 voting has begun and women are well represented on it. Jordana Talsky, Amanda Jackson Band and Sinzere are getting my votes so far. Eight out of the ten are on the playlist below. Check them out and vote for your favourites here.
Hello, here is a special edition of the Wild Raccoon Podcast covering the final 10 for Searchlight 2018
I have no idea why they have voting buttons on the final 10 because the result is now decided by a panel of 3 judges
G’day! Absent again today, the usual (family cottage). Have a good one!
Good morning!
Your “I have no idea why…” reminded me of old times at R3, when they had people vote*, and then more or less ignored the vote.
* Vote up of course; there was no vote down…
Thanks for the WR podcast Garf. I hadn’t had a chance to read the Round 3 rules yet but saw vote buttons and thought we had some say. Too bad. I am glad that “experts” are in the decision making for the finalist.
it was one way to share all 10 finalists
Indeed.
Searchlight! Luckily I don’t care much for it anymore. I do like that the winner is decided by judges, but the whole voting thing is really a lot of click-baiting, which I never liked. Whatever happened to all the past winners? Are they still around? I can’t even name who won last year.
@Wynnzie, The Long War (the are the last track on the podcast
)
@Garf I will listen, I think Jake (cuz) has told me about them before
Fun podcast, the one drawback being that with that mellifluous delivery, W.R. is sure to get poached by the CBC!
I am back. That new job is making blogging very difficult. I lurk when I can.
I enjoyed my playlist today at work though. I hope others will as well.
The CBC couldn’t afford
mehim@DBS, I’m saving your Women’s Day playlist for the long ride Monday night (if the coach has working wifi)
Well, tonight is going to be a bit of a R3 memories night: Plants and Animals is playing Parc Avenue, the one that starts off with Bye, Bye, Bye.
Oh my, I wish I could go to that show!
Enjoy Garf!
