Hey Our Basement!
Hey Our Basement!
Ryan Hicks here, I’m writing to you all the way from Regina. I released my second full-length album ‘Pulsing Colours’ earlier this year + this is my second single “I Want It”.
When I wrote this song I was thinking about not only myself, but many people close to me. I have a restless heart in that I always seem to be searching for something more. That serves me well in some ways, but often I miss out on wonderful experiences because I’m not in the moment and I am thinking about something else. The lyric, “I want it. Don’t know what it is but I want it” refers to sometimes I don’t even know what I want. There is a feeling of restlessness that comes over me and the more people I meet, the more I see the same thing in others.
The lyric,
“This empty cup is never full.
No matter what I still feel the pull.
Everything I need in front of my eyes.
A perfect life no one could deny”
This metaphor of a cup never being full has a few possible interpretations and I think whatever the listener gets from it will work for them.
While this is a heavy song, I wanted to avoid a cliche “rock” sound so it starts quite quiet. As the song emotionally builds the music becomes more intense climaxing at the repetition of “I Want It” into a scream. Of all my music, this song is the closest to my heart and definitely the most vulnerable song I’ve ever written.
Anyways, thanks so much for checking it out! It’s a song I’m really proud of, so I hope you like it.
Thanks again,
Ryan Hicks

Hello
I set the post to go up on time but forgot to add an image… again!
sorry
Greetings and salutations!
Garf, I’m pretty sure you’re forgiven. I rather enjoyed the Ryan Hicks single. It was not at all what I thought it would be, but I’m definitely going to check out more by him!
I am going to punish myself by making an extra cup of tea, and then drinking it because the other “adult” in the house drinks coffee
I drink coffee, I drink tea
I drink the chai and the chai loves meeee
I drink both but I prefer tea (I have a box of these in the kitchen)
I left my tea downstairs 🙁
Good morning!
Coffee here…
It would be cold by the time it got there, you’ll have to get your own
Fine…
don’t take that tone with me young man
I’m another person who drinks both. I’ve had a cup of coffee already today, and am working on my second cup of tea
@Russ, You could always ask the cat to bring you a coffee (good luck with that)
@Janet, I actually prefer hot chocolate, but I am too energy efficient to make it (and we would go through too much milk)
Garf – I’m a hot chocolate fan myself, but don’t drink it very often for the same reasons
Hey! I know Ryan. 😀
He has played for us at Playing for Change events. Great guy and I really like his latest album where he had members of Library Voices and Rah Rah playing on it.
I was asked to premier the video on Friday but we are busy then so I thought this would be the next best thing (and I can add the video as soon as I get permission)
cookies!!!!
Well the widget would be cool if it worked. :-/
we could make it open a new tab in the background and play it there so when the main tab refreshes after a comment is posted the music continues playing. We could do that for the podcasts as well.
That might be a good workaround.
I would love to grab a feed of the Sirius/XM stream and share it via something like discord so we can all hear it (but that is slightly against the law)
I’m slightly scared to mention this out loud but I am listening to CBC R3 Classic, without a subscription or vpn
Could it be possible? Are they coming around?
I am far too happy about finding out I can hear a gutted version of our favourite station
Really? That could be exciting!
I am streaming via the siriusxm site not CBC Music
https://player.siriusxm.com/now-playing
I’m home (they are playing Joel Plaskett Emergency)
Broooooood!
I am enjoying listening to R3 today.
I wish we could inbed this feed into our site so we could all listen to the same tracks at the same time
That would be ideal but sadly not how they work now.
just listened to the raccoon thingie from yesterday.
Did he spell it Brasstronaught because he’s British, or was that the only way to get the translator to pronounce it correctly?
C) I am an idiot
Hi Krib
In all honesty I recorded that podcast twice yesterday (the first version broke on me while I was editing it) and the second version was finished about 10 minutes after it should have been posted (or 24 hours if you add the fact it should have been posted on Monday)
I thought that spelling was on purpose. Haha!
Hey kids. Nice to see so many in the playground at the same time.
I am just home from dropping off that government paperwork I have been pissing and moaning about. Done!
I hadn’t noticed you complaining about paperwork
Hmmm, I felt as if I was always mentioning it.
Glad it wasn’t as annoying as I thought.
Thrilled it is done!
my computer is being temperamental. Just lost my lovely big comment.
Synopsis; I like tea.
I bought 100 tea bags this morning
(that is all)
I am unclear if it was last Friday or this coming one that the I Want It video is viewable …
I am going to wait for ABC to come home then I will play the latest Wild Racoon podcast.
This one coming
I have added the date
Thanks @garfielduk.
I keep having to turn my wifi off and back on in order to get things working here … same on FB this morning.
Hi morgana. Glad you got that stinkin paperwork done!
is Suki using all the bandwidth on Mutflix again?
@darbar I want to revel in the completion but I have heard that most all applications are denied the first time and you have to go through another process to appeal.
ugh…I hope it ain’t so for your sake.
mantra; be prepared for the worst and hope for the best
and thank you:)
I am heading to the kitchen to make seed crackers, avocado chocolate mousse, golden milk beverage and some other odd food to keep my odd body happy.
Listening to some old R3 but busy hands.
Also had enough irritation of my computer acting up.
I’m hungry now
never mind, it’s too late now
G’night folks
Hey everyone,
This is Ryan Hicks here. I am so happy you are enjoying the song and I can’t wait to share the video with you! Fun fact: this song went through about 30 different versions and originally was called “Life In The Dreamhouse”. I originally had this idea about things being perfect on the outside, but a different story on the inside. That title is a reference to Barbie as there is a Barbie cartoon called, Life In The Dreamhouse. Maybe someday on the box-set I will release the original Barbie-lovin’ version, but I don’t know if my career or the world is ready for that yet. Cheers!
Hey Ryan! Thanks for dropping in. I look forward to the day when we are already for that Barbie-lovin’ version. Haha
