Hi Our Basement,
We are Lex Valentine & Nadia Valerie King, aka LOLAA, and we will be releasing a Spanish version of our debut EP, on June 8th. We premiered a video for “Espiritu” via NYLON Espanõl to announce before two performances during CMW. We will be touring the U.S. in July followed by Canadian dates August/September.
We were two-thirds of the punk/alt-rock power trio Magneta Lane, a project that began while still in high school, releasing multiple records for Paper Bag before other interests in life came calling. With LOLAA, we explore our Mexican heritage, taking inspiration from Latin American/80’s pop music/icons: Daniela Romo, Gloria Estefan, Kim Carnes, Laura Branigan, Debbie Harry, as well as the discotheque era: Donna Summer, Bianca Jagger, the lightness, the elegance, the dancing.
The plan for us was to always record the songs in Spanish, but naturally because we live in an English speaking country, we decided to start with what made sense in terms of geography.
Lex & Nadia, aka LOLAA
hello
Morning, Garfield. Things are getting jeezly hot here in Ottawa. Don’t like it.
one of these days I will visit Canada during spring and/or fall
Hello hello! I’m looking forward to hearing more from LOLAA.
Good luck staying cool today, Benoit!
Thanks, janet. Going out cycling this morning, sort of now, actually. Garfield, even at that, there are so many different weathers here at the same time! It’s a big hunk o’ ground.
Good morning!
Well, still with the weather, there’s a real hotspot between Chicago and Detroit. And it’s drifting north-east…
Canadian weather talk!
Been over 30 here for almost three weeks, crazy for May. Had a good thunder storm last night with some rain. Back to hot today.
Yep, that sounds like 80’s pop. It wasn’t my jam when it was my era and I can still give it a miss. These ladies do it well, just not my thing.
@Morgana, I will try to do better next time
@garfielduk with what? You kill it daily.
I think it would be quite upset if I did that
I just got an email about this El Paso, Texas + Cuidad Juarez, Mexico bordertown pop quartet (sorry Morgana) but I still want to keep our posts about CanCon and it is in-keeping with today’s Spanish theme I thought I would post it here

all genres welcome! sometimes I am happily surprised when I keep an open mind/ear.
off for errands and appointments.
later kids:)
I am with morgana on all counts. I try to keep my mind open but female led pop songs are usually not my thing. I like to be surprised as well.
I wonder, if I asked nicely, do you think my housemate would allow me to put one of those boiling water tap in my room so that I don’t have to keep going downstairs for more tea
Wouldn’t a plug in kettle be easier?
in the short term yes, but then I would have to keep getting up and refilling it
I don’t like my chances anyway. He said no when I asked if we could have a pet Porg
Ha! Right good point. Then you would need a water source anyways. Good luck with that.
I’m right next to the bathroom so I would just need to plumb some plastic tube to the cold feed for the sink.
I could always do that and put a small tap in my room.

Only 1 week until I have to have my first votes in for Polaris Music Prize. That will be the theme for the playlist Friday.
keep up the good work and I look forward to the playlist
maybe, if you are interested, we could do a podcast of your top ten with you as a guest (possibly)
Maybe possibly. 🙂
