Hey, Our Basement:
Ocean Potion. That’s the name of this band. We – Mike O’Brien and Jason Haberman – began to write and record together following a joyous tour with our respective bands, Zeus and Yukon Blonde. We really bonded one night on the road when Mike and his bandmates jammed carrot sticks and cauliflower chunks into Jason’s eyes, ears, nose, and throat. After coming to our senses, we realized that we had a lot more in common than just vegetables and decided to document our commonalities in the form of an LP, set for release later this year.
“In The Grass” is about childhood friendships that suddenly end. The person who was your best friend is out of your life forever. It’s about looking back on those relationships, and wondering where that person ended up in life after your paths separated.
Thanks for listening. You can also listen on Soundcloud!
We look forward to sharing more new music with you very soon.

Good morning!
Nice tune, but, what else would you expect from those guys.
Morning! I’ll have to listen. A little world cup right now.
is there a world cup on, I hadn’t noticed
@ Garfield,
Maybe you haven’t heard of it because…. it’s only a little world cup.
@Scott, I guess if it was bigger it would be a world mug
Possibly a tankard??
that’s in 2026 when they will have 48 teams playing (only 32 at the moment)
Is that the AmeCanExico Tankard?
Or maybe the CanaXicoMerican Tankard?
Texican Tankard?
I Like it! Yours is simpler, I’m overthinking it.
should we start printing the shirts now?
Shirts?? I thought it was a Tankard. Don’t they serve beer in the stands? I expect they will have to in Canada to get anyone to attend.
The don’t know if they serve beer at soccer games here in the UK

The Tankard is a curling bonspiel isn’t it? Maybe that’s the Brier Tankard? I don’t know.
Anyway, I’ve been enjoying this stream for the most part over the last couple days.

Heavy on the Mike O’Neil/Inbreds, which is great.
Hi Ft, I can’t comment on the stream but I did enjoy the TV show
What is the motion of the ocean potion? Asking for a friend.
Hey garf! How’s it going? I haven’t seen the show, aside from it being on in the background, on mute, while friends were over. It looked weird but I would think it would be good, based on the people involved. (Clattenburg et all)
Crawford has been on the CBC player (I can’t remember if it has a proper name) for a while now. There are only 8 episodes (IIRC) and I wouldn’t say that there were many laugh out loud moments but I found it very entertaining (WR thought it needed more raccoons)
I haven’t been on cbc music at all in the last number of months but found myself needing some free streaming music recently. They do a good job of burying streams that are worth listening to on that site. It’s clunky to say the least.
Good morning everyone!
Hiya. Back from a couple of cycling errands.
I know, I know: breathlessly waiting and hopelessly hoping you were…
TRUE!
I can say that I was brethless, but that has more to do with my quick trip to the store
Oops, was working. Am working. Always with the working.
You guys had much Polaris long list discussion around here? Is the list a) better than recent years? b) not thrilled about it? c) Polaris has ran it’s course of being relevant and who really gives a shit now, especially with the whole “state of the world” thing.
I’m actually listening to R3 right now…. something that dowsn’t happen much these days for sure.
Lee Howers favourite song is on: I Feel Naked Without My Cellphone by Two Hours Traffic
You know what’s funny… I don’t remember peoples R3 names now. What was Lee Hower’s?
He was mcfflyer
We encountered that same issue in TO last week.
Yort and I…
ah yes.
Were you in toronto for NXNE?
There are people I have met at the picnic that I still don’t know who they are?
I know internet people by their instagram handles more than anything now haha. It’s been so long since there was an R3 blog that my memory has replaced those names with other bits of trivia for the most part.
FT drops in again!
Ocean Potion is a great name and it’s a groovy track.
I talk about Polaris a lot. It still introduces people to artists they may not be aware of and still gives 10 artists some money. Seems good to me.
Polaris playlist post last week. There are two playlists, one is the official one and the other were our picks.

hi Darbar!
Exposure to music you might not have heard of before is certainly a plus of Polaris long list. It’s like a critics list of the “best albums” for the year, but all canadian. etc. Obviously not everyone will agree on everything, especially since it crosses several genres and there are some socio-political considerations to be made when creating the long list.
Those playlists… one would need spotify would they?
Yes they would be Spotify. Sorry it’s the best I can do right now. The list is on the Polaris page. https://polarismusicprize.ca/2018-long-list/
s’all good! I’m a luddite an don’t have spotify.
The critics don’t all agree. It’s quite interesting the range of opinions there are. Without Grant there to stir the pot, things stay very calm in the discussions. haha
well, it’s like taking the editor from rolling stone and the editor from pitchfork and getting them to agree on what’s “the best”. They will have some common ground probably but a lot of outliers and need to compromise. Now add in a thousand other voices or however many people it is that decide the Polaris stuff.
What’s Grant doing these days anyway? I see his social media stuff – cruise ship tours and writing articles for a vancouver mag. I assume he still works at cbc but have no idea in what way. Not on air it seems. Shame, that.
He is still with R3. If you tweet him he can sometimes get requests in there and still does some new stings. Not the same as live and on the air though.
intersting. when I was listening just this afternoon for a little bit it sounded like a lot of the songs being played were from the “heyday” era. I figured new songs would be added to the playlist but it’s just a random stream. I end up using my skips on those canned in between song bits, lol.
also, no twitter, due to aforementioned luddite-ism.
I actually haven’t listened in awhile but I will get back to it at some point. Polaris and making playlists has kept my listening very focused.
i don’t even know what I listen to anymore. A little of this a little of that. Our locker room jams guy at hockey is very into old school hip hop, so some of that. And classic rock at home. And metal or punk in the car haha.
Haha! Yup. In my car is whatever CD I grab.
