Hello, Our Basement:
We’ve just released the third track ‘Ginger Ale’ from our upcoming record out this August!
“Ginger Ale” is about going on a date when I was on tour in London. And everything was going well but then I kept losing my train of thought by having these random, horrible flashbacks to fucked up things in my childhood. It got to the point where I could hardly hold a conversation. Becky, if you’re reading this, you are a wonderful, Scottish flower and I apologize for being so distracted and out of sorts that evening.
Thanks for checking it out,
Hotel Mira
Good morning!
Hello
Hello!
Too hot here again. I have a heat rash.
Working to get as much done as I can earlier in the day.
I’ll be in the basement later today … posting on our basement;)
Polaris short list homework to distract me from the heat. Today I’m spending time with Daniel Caesar. Top notch music to be sure. I remember that during the interview with three jury members that was on the blog yesterday, one of the panel said we would look back and recognize how pivotal/important the album is. Not sure about that but who am I to argue with a jury member. All in all it’s a bit sappy and rhymeeeee for me however.
Hi morgana
Hello tumbling tumbleweed
Hows everybody? I just checked out your Shortlist Post from yesterday, and I have to say, I am not in love with the list! Oh well, I didn’t expect to be. Yesterday we were driving during “Drive” on R2, and Terfry was talking about the Polaris list, he intro’d Partner(s?) as Tegan & Sara crossed with Beavis & Butthead. I found that amusing…. then they played the song. Can’t say I was a fan! And I’ve come full circle on Tegan and Sara from liking them to hating them to being ok with them doing what they do. Partners was like too many shiny polished hooks … like if nickleback were lesbians (which I’ve read Partner is all about being gay. And that’s fine but it’s not like it hasn’t been done before.)
Side note re: old “R3 blog community” – I met Mike V the other day!
Hey @ft! Tegan and Sara crossed with Beavis and Butthead made me snort out loud.
So if that is not your thing, what is your thing on the short list?
I too am struggling with feeling excited about backing anyone.
Hi ft, I don’t know who I would vote for on this years short list but I do wish that a persons gender prefrence wasn’t made out to be some sort of selling point for a musician. I only really care if they can play/sing.
I havn’t met MrV yet. Did he say anything about the yaks?
I would imagine that DBS will be sharing a Polaris 2018 short list playlist on Friday so I might put together a poll for that day as well
garf, I hear ya. It seems that maybe it’s used as a selling feature to that crowd, which is fine, but it’s also exploitative of their music, to sell it like that. Who knows maybe they wrote their own bio and that is the taget audience? (I think I read about their “queer leanings” in their bio – I kind of read it as if they were the first band to ever tackle such issues, which to me, they’re not). Ah well.
Morgana, I’ve not really found anything on the short list that I’m super interested in yet. Honestly there are a number of artists on there i’ve never even heard of! Reading CBC Music’s short list post, they had a “If you like ____, you might like ___” …. hilariously, I hadn’t heard of many of the comparables!
I guess I have homework to do as well.
garf, my discussions with Mike V were surprisingly yak free!
@ft worse could happen than music homework for sure. What are you listening to these days?
I am going to a festival in a few weeks and feel the need to do some homework there too.
CBCMusic still has a blog? Can you call it a blog if they don’t have comments
not a blog, a post (article?)
I go there sometimes to listen to streaming music.
morgana, I have a stack of records beside the player that are recently played… from memory they include: Booker T & The MG’s “Melting Pot”, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass “!! Going PLaces!!”, The Sheepdogs “Changing Colours”, Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs “self titeled”, Waylon Jennings “Don’t think Twice”, Waylon and WIllie….
It’s a relatively mixed bag lol, and not a ton of new in there.
I still buy records though! New ones sometimes. But this past weekend I went to a garage sale of a guy with 1000’s of records (hence the Waylon & Booker T albums – I just picked them up. So good!)
currently listening at wok to this:

I can’t remember the last CD I bought or the last show for that matter
yeah if i buy music, it’s likely a vinyl record. Although I bought Beck “Colors” this year for my car, which has a CD player. And a Metallica CD for my car too \m/
The first thing I tend to do with a CD when I get it home is to rip it into flac and keep the original as a backup, that is harder to do with vinyl
But I don’t listen to half the amount of music I think that I should to post here
here’s a band a friend alerted me to, they are all members of other bands – a supergroup if you will. I like this tune.

I will have a Polaris Short List playlist on Friday and say a few words about it. Possibly a Gateway Fest playlist or a summer playlist as well. I haven’t quite decided.
garf – life is short! listen to what you want and only if you want to!
Hi Darblar! How’s Regina these days?
Hi FT! It’s hot! As it is a lot of places these days. How’s the Peg?
Also hot! I like it that way though. Better than the alternative in my mind. Can’t complain – lots of camping trips already in the bag for the summer and some more planned.
We’ve got a Leo’s Tavern opening here soon… a touch of Regina in the ‘Peg (I hope they have Riders paraphernalia on the walls somewhere!)
Didn’t bother to copy my last comment … got a 404 error message this time:(
Nice. Personally, I have seen enough Rider paraphernalia for my liking. Whatcha gonna do when you live in Riderville.
I have been spending a lot of time down in a rehearsal hall for a musical. The run finished on Saturday so now I can start thinking summer finally. Gateway Fest at the end of the month and RFF the second weekend of August. I want to get some camping in as well but haven’t planned anything.
Thanks for the reminder to copy my long replies first morgana. 😉
@morgana, don’t you hate it when you come up with a plan for world peace but when you share it you can’t due to a 404 error that causes you to forget your plan
