Acclaimed singer/songwriter Joe Nolan’s video for his new single “Breaking Up And Out” premiered at No Depression late last month. It’s a further taste of the Edmonton native is hotly anticipated new album Cry Baby, due out Sept. 21.
Described previously by No Depression as “raw talent through and through,” Nolan makes a dynamic return with Cry Baby, the long-awaited follow-up to his 2014 Colin Linden-produced album Tornado. A truly prolific songwriter, Nolan took the time needed to assemble 11 songs that make perfect sense together. The album’s concept takes you on a trip of melancholic madness — through darkness and depression, booze-filled evenings and fractured relationships, Joe is unabashed in sharing his deepest secrets and honest outlooks. There is charm in his chaos, a youthful maturity, a broken journey but a hopeful return.
“Cry Baby is the album I’ve always wanted to make, to showcase my true colours,” Nolan says. “It’s a rock ‘n roll album that swells to a whispering hush. This is a pivotal album for me; my confessional. I am so looking forward to getting back in the ring and on the road. There’s excitement in opportunity and a fresh start.”
With non-stop touring over the past few years, Nolan’s fan base keeps growing. He has shared stages with established artists Melissa Etheridge, Wilco, Lydia Loveless, Whitehorse, Shakey Graves, The Strumbellas, Todd Snider, Colin Linden, Sam Baker, Gurf Morlix, the Guilty Women, and the legendary Peter Asher. Following album release shows in Edmonton and Calgary, Nolan will be back on the road throughout Canada this fall [see full schedule below].

Good morning.
Interesting, Joe Nolan. Quite the little waver in his voice. He’s much into it. I have to see him if and when he comes East.
Also, the short hair looks good.
Hello
Hi garf. How’s tricks? (as they used to say in the Fifties, maybe the Forties)
(Off for a tiny bit. It’s 10:11 and I haven’t had breakfast yet.) (Went for a good bike ride though.)
Unless you count the biscuits I had this morning (they had fruit in them) it was after 4pm when I had breakfast
Breakfast is an important meal for me, even though I make break fast late. There are usually two eggs involved, sometimes only one, and (these days) a single piece of multigrain toast. With probably some marmalade or homemade strawberry jam on half.
I like to have breakfast once a day (on average) and I can’t eat anything else until I do
One of the “latest things” in North America is ‘all-day breakfast’.
Breakfast is late for me today. No one else would want to eat what I am having but after four weeks properly on Keto foods again that part of me is feeling better.
Joe Nolan; that is some nice easy listening that is not pithy. I don’t know about you all but I find there is an awful lot of mellow tunes out there that are so vacuous that you could knock them over with a feather.
I don’t really know how the Spotify radio thing works but I have been enjoying Dan Mangan’s, Troubled Mind radio stream there. Good examples of mellower and solid music.
@morgana – Dan Mangan’s playlists were my idea for this Friday. Ha! We shall see if I do or not.
Hi morgana & DBS
Hiya Garf!
I enjoyed the Joe Nolan track but I would like him more if he came to Regina instead of Saskatoon. Sigh…
There should be more dates added later, so you never know
Ya not likely.
More chance of him playing there than her
That’s probably true. A lot of our artists tour Europe though.
but they don’t always play close to me and even when they do there is no late transit to get me home again
that is why my last live music was London, it was cheaper for me to catch overnight buses to and from London than to pay for a taxi home from Durham, Newcastle or, Sunderland.
Playing in Saskatoon isn’t very convenient for me either but I have tickets for 2 or 3 shows in Saskatoon this fall so far.
If only I had more time and money!
ya preachin to the choir sister!
g’night folks
