Hey Our Basement!
In early 2017, we began recording our second album, Daisy, with producer Kevin Dietz (The Cranberries, The Glorious Sons, Circa Survive.) The resulting effort is the band’s best work to date, full of strong songwriting, energetic performances, and powerful delivery.
Our new single, “Howl,” marks a change in my writing style and features the powerful voice of country singer, Alyssa Morrissey. Adding a refined southern flair counterpoint to our feverish pop sound.
“Howl” is about finding someone that makes you feel free, not afraid to be yourself around them. We have always been very comfortable both on/off stage together. Alyssa was always the country girl, while I’m the rock guy. We wanted to write a song about our relationship that was perfect for both of us.
Daisy is slated for release this fall and will be performed in its entirety live at Toronto’s Lee’s Palace on October 5th, featuring special guests Olivia and The Creepy Crawlies. Hope to see you there!

Hello
Good day! I’m afraid I missed most of the Polarisses; 1st, I watched the then new episode of Better Call Saul, interspersing it some (and I had watched the first hour); but then, 2nd, went to bed at 10:15! Bushed. Still quite hot here (but last day).
What climate warming?
Anyway, I would have hated to be a juror; many, many artful offerings.
I put it on the FB, I’ll put it here too. “A plandid picture” Huh?

Good day.
I watched Polaris at the start and was listening by headphone on the way to a play rehearsal and in a break and on the way home. I got home in time to catch Partner and the winner live. I then watched what I had missed. Some great performances and a great choice with Jeremy Dutcher.
Lenny sent some pictures last night so I will try to have a post ready for tomorrow.
The only performence I didn’t enjoy was from Hubert Lenoir trying to shock people by doing what punks have been doing for decades
From what I have seen of him, that is Hubert being Hubert. He is an interesting person and doesn’t care if you like him or not.
All it did to me was to make me want to ignore him, which is a shame because I agree with some of the things he had to say , but the style put me off.
I’m just curious – is the polaris prize using itself as a component of a carefully curated path to reconciliation? no less than 3 of the last few (3? 4?) winners have been aboriginal – is this coincidence or is it liberal politics?
This question isn’t to diminish the winners work, but I am curious if others see it as coincidence or part of a larger movement to reconcile past wrongs against aboriginals in Canada.
Would you be asking the same question if we had 3 white artists in a row?
Why should the ethnicity of previous winners have any effect on this years result?
My opinion, anon/quest, is that the milieu, the general grouping of people who gravitate around CBC radio are, in great majority, left of centre in politics and attunement to ‘forward-looking new morals”.
Garf, that’s just it: It used to be Whites, and now… This does go against odds, or stats… Same with women, same with other groupings (‘diversity’) — CBC is a champion of same, much more so than the Canadian population in general — not that it’s against, it’s just not as ‘progressive’ as people related to the CBC.
You’ll find similarities on the French side, Radio-Canada, but with respect to Québec um specificities.
It is a sign of the times. More people are awakening and are ready to listen and celebrate other voices. Diversity is a big deal. It’s not Polaris or CBC pushing anything, it’s the over 200 jurors across the country that are finding the music and what the artists have to say of importance and relevance.
So how’s the weather where you are? A bit chilly here. :p
But Darbar: artists are pretty well all left of centre; as is the CBC (at least the CBC I hear here). We who listen to the CBC mustn’t forget all the Canadians that have little if anything to do with the CBC. The reconciliation movement is not something that’s spread among all types; but one gets that impression from it (and from artists).
Weather: chilly just got here. Chevrons and long lines of Canada geese have been going south, today.
True Benoit but who wins Polaris has nothing to do with the artists or CBC is the point I was getting at. It’s a juror that recommends the album and the 200 and some other jurors that vote on it. Polaris and CBC have nothing to do with that part. Indigenous, women, queer and others are making their voices heard and more people are willing to listen now. No not all, but definitely more.
There is probably a high percentage of left leaning jurors as well though. Artsy folk tend to be.
