It’s Release Radar playlist time! Release Radar are playlists that let you know what is new each month. We have a Spotify Release Radar playlist and a YouTube new video release playlist to help you to discover new music. Some of the videos in the YouTube playlist can also be found on the Spotify playlist but the playlists are very different and you should check them both out.
The YouTube playlist has over 30 new uploads. There are a couple more videos from the N’we Jinan project, new releases, some great covers and collaborations, lyric videos and live videos. I particularly love the Dizzy videos as she is so adorable. There are even a couple Christmas videos in there and it’s all for your viewing and listening pleasure.
The Spotify Release Radar playlist has over 70 songs on it this month. They are new releases with some tracks being teasers for upcoming albums, some just released albums and a couple remixes. There are many tracks from artists that have been featured here on OurBasement and there are a handful of Christmas songs on the playlist that were just released as well. This month I was most excited about the songs from Patrick Watson, Kid Koala, Grimes, Wintersleep and The Cosmic Range and a few more. Always great to hear new tracks from artists you enjoy.
Foxwarren, Les Trois Accords, John K. Sampson and The Seasons all had more tracks for us to enjoy this month as well. Keep them coming! The Saskatchewan artists with new tracks are Bears in Hazenmore, Foxwarren, Ryan Hicks, Wolf Willow, and Jared Robinson. There are some videos by Blake Berglund and Colter Wall, The Dead South, and Foxwarren . I love my Saskie artists!
Featured Artists:
Edmonton folk singer and storyteller Maddie Storvold is thrilled to share her new political power ballad, “Night Sweats,” via BeatRoute.
“I wrote that one just out of fear, which is a new emotion I’m exploring,” she says. “I fell asleep in my mom’s bed with the news on. I was kind of in that half-awake, half-asleep state, and I could hear the news in the background and I woke up fully drenched and realizing that physical reaction to the political world and how much these things affect us on a micro-level.”
“Night Sweats” is the first single from Maddie’s second album, Freedom, Books, Flowers and the Moon, due Dec. 15. The 10-song release features gentle folk tunes about friendship, heartache, travelling and the little details in life, delivered with sincerity, honesty and Maddie’s deliciously wry sense of humour. Her new songs are also the centrepiece of an upcoming episode of PBS’s live concert series, Stampede City Sessions, filmed in Calgary. Previous performers include Roseanne Cash, Jess Moskaluke, Leeroy Stagger and Lisa Hannigan.
Edmonton’s Lutra Lutra is thrilled to announce the exclusive premiere of their new video, “Devils Give,” via Canadian Beats. Directed by Brody LaPlante, the clip was shot around Morinville, Legal, and in Red Deer.
“It’s kind of about the dual nature of humans,” says frontman Garreth Burrows. “You can be an angel if all your options are taken away, but to see where your morality lies, you need to have all options available.”
“Devils Give” is the latest single from Lutra Lutra’s first full length, Psychopath & The Philosopher, out Dec. 15, 2018. The 10-song album bursts with hip-shaking bass grooves, fiery guitars, frenetic keys and catchy lyrics about love, devils and satellites. Dive a little deeper and you’ll hear wry and menacing tales of inner struggles, morality and felines sung by Garreth and his sister/keyboardist Katrina Burrows.
You will find their video at the start of our YouTube playlist.
Enjoy the playlists!!
happy Friday
Good Morning.
I’m listening now. Thanks for the playlists
Good morning. Thanks for listening!
I missed getting these two featured artists on our new release calendar Garf.
Hmm and looks like I have a couple links to fix in the post. The new layout to the editing page confused me a bit.
@DBS, That’s ok, we will just dock your pay 🙂
Ha!
Anybody have any thoughts on any of the new releases?
Just getting caffeine in. Thoughts yet to be activated …
Hi morgana! I very much understand the needing to be caffeinated before trying to make thoughts.
The Bend Sinister mash up certainly woke me up!
It also reminded me of the seeing them at Performance Works on Granville Island after they won a Peak prize. I also met Dom Fricot at that show as well as @cmac.
Why does Spotify keep switching me to “random” instead of “sequential” listening?
I liked what Bend Sinister did with that song. Haha! Nice memories to have too morgana.
I am not sure why it would be switching to random. Do you have the shuffle feature on?
The shuffle seems to be the default setting these days. I just have to remember to switch it. I don’t remember all that well until it aggravates me.
I do try to put them in some kind of order usually so it is probably best not on shuffle. Mine isn’t defaulting to shuffle but I often forget when I turn it on to turn it off again.
While in the shower I thought that Trixie Whitley was Cold Specks. Maybe it was the fan running but I was tricked.
I have got to say that Grimes is not as good as I remember. She really has pared down the number of words she uses per song! Can we please have more words than appreciate, capitulate and cooperate? Contemplate, annunciate, frustrate, hyperventilate!
Ha! I get what you are saying. I am not much of a lyric person but if words are repeated over and over it gets to me. I quite like that track though.
I know for sure you put thought into the order of the songs which is one of the reasons it is so aggravating.
Looking ahead at what is to come on the playlist I know it is going to keep me very happy while I make a pot of soup to feed the crew over the weekend. i really appreciate your roll out of music on Fridays @darbar!
Thank you so much for listening morgana! Much appreciated!
In other music news; our dinner guest last night lives in Calgary. He has opened his house to us in April so we are one step closer to seeing Hawksley Workman!
Nice! A place to stay helps a lot.
It does indeed. My hubby has a few friends in the area so between the accommodations being covered and socializing options I am pretty sure we will make it happen. It will be my daughters birthday present. Dad is not a fan so just the girls will be buying tickets.
For years I have had regrets of not seeing his operatic show at The Culch in Vancouver. This show will be with the symphony so totally different but not the same as a regular stage show.
I expect it will be worth the trip. I hope it all works out splendidly.
So far I have one fun thing planned for each month Jan, Feb, March and April. That should help me maintain my sanity until the Spring. It has been a challenge to find things that I can handle but it is looking good!
I am working on not finding things to do right now! I have so much to catch up on. But there should be shows for me to go to in the next few months. I missed too many being busy with theatre stuff.
There has been a great selection of music and other events here but I just can’t handle them.
Balance, right! I continue to work towards that balance being shifted into more activity but only my brain knows when it will be ready to fire up and deal again.
I hope you find your balance and feel caught up.
Mostly what I need to catch up on is stupid household chores and figuring out my finances. I can quite easily find other distractions that deal with that stuff! I am terrible with both.
I have enjoyed having a bit more free time since the play ended. I still haven’t gotten anything done for Christmas, but I am at least thinking of things now.
I hope you can do what you want when you want without worrying about it some day soon!
I’m out for the day. Gotta get some daylight before it is dark again!
Have a great weekend everyone!
