Music from the year 2016 is what we are listening to this week. If you were listening to CBC R3 then, you will recognize many of the songs on the playlist. The R3 blog we knew was gone but the OurBasement blog had begun. R3 was still streaming music but fewer of us were listening to it.
Some of the tracks aren’t familiar but the artist is. Some artists we just may not have been aware of at the time. Each month working on these playlists, I have found francophone artists that I wasn’t hearing then but am loving now. So while it is a look back at 2016 there may still be some new to you tracks along with the old favourites. Embrace them all!We started with 2006 in March/2018 because I planned to make this a monthly playlist and there are 12 months in a year and 2006 was 12 years ago. We are now on 2016 this month and 2017 next month will wind up this segment. We shall see where we go from there. It can be fun to check back and see what music we still love and what music we once loved but have moved on from and to find out what we missed along the way.
2016 brought us great albums from some of our favourite Canadian artists like BADBADNOTGOOD, Black Mountain, Basia Bulat, Jason Collett, Gord Downie, Carolyn Mark and more. I put the tracks on the playlist alphabetically according to artist instead of any flow order and have found it best to listen to this one on shuffle. There is also a YouTube playlist again this month for you to watch and listen. Whatever works for you, enjoy!
Good morning!
hello
Off to fetch car at shop.
Good morning 🙂
Geez, darbar’s up early. Ish.
Sorta kinda. I am off to the studio now and running late.
Yay… for running late. Winter excuses a s***load of things.
Me for a second breakfast now, Only had a little bowl of cereal, now for an omelet. Num.
The omelet was delicious. A medium amount of medium cheddar on one side, and three thin tomato slices on the other. Various nummy spices. Folded over. With a nice slice of toasted whole wheat.
Amazing. It’s now a standard thing for Canadian media to report, or headline, things said by the OOO* with quotes. As in ” ‘6ft3’, 243 lbs, but in good health”…
*Yes, the donald
I am back. The omelet sounds delicious.
I try to avoid “the donald”.
Crazy busy blog today!!
Yes, crazy busy. My omelet was a great draw. It was really good, went down well.
We are finally going to warm up a bit on the prairies. It will be in the negative teens next week. I am so tired of the extreme cold!
Have you gotten all dug out?
Yes, more than once!
Things are so snowed tight that some already-disturbed snow gets shuffled 2, 3, 4 times. Between the street plow, the sidewalk blower (that just went by, having a hard time and still leaving sidewalks with 4-6 inches of slidy snow), and me clearing areas… only to have a plow shove it right back in front of someone’s place…
I think we’re feeling about the snow a little as you do about the cold.
So frustrating! But do I understand your city cleans your sidewalks? I don’t think the city has even made it down our side street yet but I am okay with that. I don’t need the piles they leave behind.
This year, the city doing the sidewalks has been more of a theory than a fact. Even those few bikepaths that are plowed (yes, that’s a thing in 2019 Ottawa, just a few of them though), well, they’re close to impassable; iffy anyway. When I went to get my car this morning, I found it a lot better to use arterials and travelled secondaries — they were well cleared and allowed nice speed, say 17-20 kmh.
So much fun driving in deep snow. People stuck everywhere. I have been happy to see people helping each other out though. I am not sure how you keep biking at all.
Don’t forget our listening party on Sunday everybody! (I see you lurking there)
Steven Bowers will be joining us on Discord to listen to his new album Elk Island Park.

I assume most Canadians will be too busy to visit here today anyway
Just dropped in to say hi.
