Our Basement,
Upon seeing a painting of Andromeda by Gustave Doré, we sought out to write music that sounded like the piece of art looked – cold, urgent, yet liberating.
A mutual understanding and inspiration was found and became a driving and unifying force.
Using this as a catalyst, our debut record – Water’s Gate – naturally revealed itself.
“Penelope,” the album’s latest single, was a direct result of this inspiration and draws on this imagery to explore and unearth personal experience. At a time where I felt powerless in certain relationships, “Penelope” was my way of saying that I could unwind myself from the pain and learn to be at peace with the fact that those I am leaving behind may not be okay.
Water’s Gate tells the story of one’s path to liberation. The album is bookended by mysticism; starting with the first track “Re:Birth” which alludes to a character being born and rising out of the water. The final track, “Moon Maidens” sees this character liberated and ascending into the night sky. Everything in between discusses the challenges and complex relationships we face.
The album artwork features this character ambiguously between the ocean and the sky, unclear whether they are falling or ascending.
Water’s Gate is out in the world March 15th.
Thank you for listening,
Good Morning
Hi there. How are things?
Hello
I am happy(ish), I got some tea bags this morning (I have learned that I don’t like breakfast tea)
Which reminds me, I should go and make another cup of tea
Good morning. Must have coffee.
I’ve taken to buying (loose) Ahmad Tea; they subtitle the name with ‘London’. Maybe so.
I’ve tried two, and they are, to my mind and taste, better than Twinings, and competitively priced — at my friendly Iranian grocery store. (A great store I go to for many varieties of nuts, excellent dates, etc.).
Their Earl Grey tea is *very* bergamotty, which pleases me, because a previous purchase of Twinings turned out to be the lightly flavoured variety; it may well be all I could find, if it weren’t for Ahmad.
Well, off the ‘puter and into the cedars. They’re not going to ‘top’ themselves.
Well he’s a lumberjack and he don’t care.
does he dress in women’s clothing and hang around in bars?
I am not sure about the women’s clothing part. Ha!
Low cedars. Not Lebanon-size.
Not sure I earn the “lumberjack” moniker. Certainly not on account of wearing suspendies and a bra’r…
Don’t you want to be a girly, just like your dear Mamma
(or am I projecting again?)
I have done my morning stretches, completed and recovered from my vestibular exercises and ingested a lovely cup of tea called, Comptoir des Indes. The tea is quite a treat.
I quite enjoyed listening to Penelope.
That is an interesting tour they have planned; conventional venues blended with brew houses and homes.
Hi Morgana
Good day @garfieldUK.
What are you up to today?
I am working very hard at procrastinating over this months podcast by eating my dinner, drinking tea, and watching the news
I am doing some easy stuff right now but I have more tiring things to get to today as well.
I just bought tickets to go and see Children of God. I wanted to go while I was in Vancouver but I ran out of energy. Very excited it is coming to me!
someone just drove past the house with a slipping fan belt, worse than nails on a chalkboard
“squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel”
not something you want to sample for a track!
either that or a very drunk, very loud mouse was passing by
Loud Mouse could be a good band name ….
a cheesy punk band
what about someone that only does Beethoven remixes
Deafmau5
Ug, can’t stand them.
Oops, that was not very PC of me.
I am happy to finally be getting to listening to the new, full album by Hawksley Workman.
huh?
is 10pm too late for a cup of tea?
Oh, I just don’t like that band is all.
Tea time … depends on your caffeine tolerance. I can’t have any after about 4pm unless I am going to a show and need to be propped up.
For me, probably; I tend to feel the effects of the stimulants in tea, whweras I can drink a fairly strong cup of coffee shortly before bedtime. Theine is supposed to be caffeine, no more no less, but I wonder if there aren’t subtle differences.
I scanned and read the wiki on caffeine, and it generally says caffeine is caffeine and is present in many plants (tea, guarana, maté, etc.), because of which it carries other names.
But I did also find this: “The differing perceptions in the effects of ingesting beverages made from various plants containing caffeine could be explained by the fact that these beverages also contain varying mixtures of other methylxanthine alkaloids, including the cardiac stimulants theophylline and theobromine, and polyphenols that can form insoluble complexes with caffeine.”
So there.
I have, in the past, been able to drink some coke or tea before going to sleep, but recently I feel it has been affecting my sleep a little
It could also be psychosomatic (I almost spelled that correctly first time)
