Good morning! It was an excellent show by Half Moon Run last night, in St-Eustache, just North of Montréal. The first one of a longish tour they’re on this summer. Go see them! Rock-loud of course! Still playing their hits, but the long-awaited new songs are just as good. The crowd — interestingly anglo and franco, depending — was fucking enthusiastic! Almost everyone standing…
That said, all of the organizers’ little rigmaroles that I was worried about were completely disregarded at the venue. A little review: a) put your e-ticket (w/QR code) on a smartphone, DO NOT PRINT IT; b) Bring a printout of your ‘confirmation’ email (it was a ‘secret show’, oooooh, you were selected); c) bring photo ID.
Yeah, about that.
The kid at the door said ‘no problem’ about me being without a smartphone, scanned the QR on the printout I’d of course made, and that was that. Nothing else.
So, much ado about nothing on the organizers’ part, and on mine (I’d replied to the email 3 times since Saturday, to no avail).
Now the other shoe drops. I had a very nice email waiting for me since 4:15 yesterday afternoon. I was in St-Eustache already. Without a smartphone… The nice support person told me to just ID myself, give ’em my seat number, they’d have a list. He apologised for tardiness, but: he was TOO LATE, didn’t realise that a printed a QR is just fine, etc.
I suggested they decomplicate their procedures. But still made it a not-too-nasty email.
The editing utility made its presence known, I clicked on it, but the edit typing box disappeared before I could use it, after maybe 10 seconds. For no visible reason.
And didn’t appear this 2nd time…
@B from O I am glad you had a good show experience even if the pre and post show rigmaroles were aggravating.
Half Moon Run are not headed here but there are a lot of bands announcing shows in my wee town. I have to recover from my kids graduation both energy wise and financially before I plan on any shows though.
Broad range of music in this weeks releases!
Hello
Why hello there!
Good day!
The long list is out! I am a bit disappointed of the lack of prairie representation on it but plenty there I am happy to vote for.
Polaris Long List chat:)
Also, here is the latest STW video in case any of you have not seen it. I sort of watched it but it started to give me a headache right away. Very cool video, not so cool brain.

unless we are saving the chat for tomorrow … assuming @darbar has a playlist on topic.
I thought I posted that long list link? Where did it go?
No playlist topic is new releases.

That Said The Whale video is amazing! Sorry your brain doesn’t like it.
I am putting in my earbuds and listening to PLL musicians while I scrape off some of the layers of dirt after having so many lovely people through my house for morgana jr’s graduation festivities.
I have some thoughts on the long list already but will listen and explore musicians I don’t know that well in order to have a more informed perspective for tomorrow.
I am also realizing that my kiddo will be transitioning from Ontario to NB in September, her two Katimavik locations… I have never been to the Polaris awards. Hmmm.
I would love to go to the gala one day!
I wouldn’t mind attending the Gala either
Apparently I forgot to post my comment about Half Moon Run as well!
Thanks for the show review Benoit. I am even more encouraged to get my ticket to their show here.
I have been reluctant to rely just on my phone and was always printing them out. I need to get over that and trust the system. Small venues, they just look on their list and see my name and don’t even bother scanning my phone.
