Festival season continues! This week we are listening to the artists that will be at Regina Folk Festival because that is where I will be. The festival is celebrating 50 years and it has a pretty great line up for it. With artists like Blue Rodeo, A Tribe Called Red, Jason Isbell, Bahamas, Ruth B, Kathleen Edwards, Colter Wall, Blind Boys of Alabama, The Dead South, Connie Kaldor, Weaves and many more, it is sure to be a good time. Weaves is probably the artist I am most looking forward to this weekend but I always love to make new discoveries as well.
The Leader Post had a good article with stories and some of the history of the festival. It has grown a lot from those early days. You can get more info about the festival on the Regina Folk Fest site as well.
Garth Brooks will be playing two nights in Regina this weekend as well. The time conflict was unfortunate and I am hearing about hotel room prices sky rocketing. Traffic and parking may be an issue as well but I am hoping it won’t impact the festival too much. I am determined to not let it stop me from enjoying it anyway!
Before summer is over, I will share my long Canadian Indie Summer playlist as well. Enjoy the rest of your summer, if you are at a festival or not!
Good morning!
Hallo, darbar! Things are how (inverting things he said)?…
Good, things are. I very much enjoyed the trip to Nelson/Kaslo. Beautiful part of the country it is.
And how are the things with you?
Good Morning
Sounds like you are having good weekends Dar.
Thanks for the play lists.
Lovin it Scott! You’re welcome. 🙂
Things are fine here, darbar, if almost always too hot for me. The new order of things. (Horseflies and deer flies aplenty at the family chalet.)
This morning, not that hot in Ottawa, I worked a bit on the patch into which I’ll transplant the rhubarb. It’s getting sun-stunted in the spot where it thrived for almost 20 years. Sooooooo, transplant (soon but not yet).
Horseflies can be very annoying and painful. My mother always had rhubarb in her garden that I would steal and find some sugar to dip it in. Ha!
It was hot and humid for me at Kaslo and I ended up with a heat rash that is still making me itch. This weekend will be a bit on the cool side at RFF and I am okay with that. My skin will appreciate it too.
Re horseflies and deer flies, Lee Valley Tools has got a new gadget: a fake dragonfly about 2, 2-1/2 inches in most directions, fairly realistic if you’re not versed in entomology, which I suppose horseflies aren’t. ANYWAY, it’s mounted on a 6-inch stiff wire (with spring clamp to hold to a hat brim), and so imitates a real dragonfly’s erratic flight.
It works.
Bothered by a couple, I went back in and got my explorer’s hat with it mounted up, and as soon as I turned my back on that one horsefly, zam, it was gone!
I was happy to have paid an (inflated) 12 bucks for it.
I am glad it worked. The picture in my head is quite amusing too! hehe
My explorer’s hat (think: Calvin & Hobbes) always raises a smile on its own. It’s made of a double layer of open-weave “some kind of fibre”. Stiff as anything. A really good item (Lee Valley, again, but years ago.)
Ciao. Out to get boring stuff.
Sounds fabulous Benoit!
Ciao!
Sorry to have missed the chatting this morning. I was watering the garden as usual but also loading up Honey for our next trip. Thankfully it is not as hot today. Spending four hours cleaning the van just about did me in yesterday. It really needed it and after it was all done I really needed a good scrubbing down too.
Packing for this trip as well as planning a trip to Moncton to visit the kid in October. Anyone have any recommendations for that town? Music venues, parks, eateries, parts of town not to stay in …
My phone is too full for me to download either of these stellar playlists so I will have to hope we have wifi at a few of our camping spots … I doubt it actually. We will be spending most of our time way off the beaten path. Which reminds me, I’ll be in touch next month when I am back. Until then, have a great second half to your summers everyone:)
Have an amazing trip morgana! I will miss you!
