This is the second in a series of playlists where I will be looking at Canadian Independent Record Companies and the artists they represent. Last month we listened to some music from artists that are on the Arts & Crafts label and this month we are checking out Constellation Records. If you enjoy post-rock, ambient, instrumental music, with a few surprises, you will love this playlist. If you keep an open mind and I am sure you will find something to love on there.
Constellation Records was established in 1997 in Montréal releasing 8-10 albums per year. Constellation have released bands from the Canadian west coast, the United States, and Europe, but their artist focus remains predominantly based in Montreal, the province of Quebec, or Central/Eastern Canada. Go to Constellation’s website and check out their catalogue of talented artists. There is a great article about Constellation Records with tracks on Bandcamp to check out as well.
Personally, I am a big fan of some of the artists on their roster. Rebecca Foon’s Constellation work runs deep: from her solo recordings as Saltland to her collaborative projects Esmerine and Thee Silver Mt. Zion to guest appearances on records by Vic Chesnutt and Land Of Kush, she’s graced many a title in their catalog. Do Make Say Think, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, avec le soleil sortant de sa bouche, are all favourites of mine as well.
Listen below to 3 tracks on Constellation Records Spring 2020 Bundle and the Rebecca Foon Compilation. Also check out the full playlist on Spotify.
Good morning! I forgot to push the go button for the post again. Oopsie.
I am not sure why I can’t get the Spotify playlist to embed this week. I will try again later.
Thanks Dar,
I always appreciate the play list. You and Garf do a great job at keeping me up to date musically.
Thanks Scott. We try. I wish I could do more, but life keeps having other plans!
