Q1, Would you like to introduce yourself?
Hi! I’m a singer, songwriter and guitar player based in Toronto. I’m recording my fourth album right now, to be released in 2022. Normally I tour a lot, either with a band or solo, playing indie-folk-psychedelic-rock type music. I also love collaborating with other musicians, especially singing harmonies.
Q2, Do you know how any of your former teachers have reacted to your work?
Not really, but I never studied music. Once a prof whose class I had TA’d sent a lovely tweet after hearing one of my songs on CBC radio.
Q3, Would you describe yourself as an introvert or an extrovert?
Closer to the introvert side of the spectrum, but probably a mix of both.
Q4, Do you prefer performing live or recording in the studio?
Performing live! Can’t wait to get back to it soon. I’m working on a recording right now and trying to record as much as possible “live off the floor” with the band in studio, so it’s sort of the best of both worlds.
Q5, What has been your most glorious failure?
Is that, like, an epic failure that teaches you valuable life lessons? For me, I’d say it was failing most of Grade 10, then dropping out of school. Despite many attempts to go back — and my secret dream of someday attending university — I never managed to get my high school diploma. In the meantime, I waitressed, played music, did weird theatre, took random art classes, travelled and read a ton of books. After a while, I was able to get into undergrad as a mature student, and eventually got a master’s degree and started teaching. So… I guess those academic failures taught me that sometimes, to get where you need to be, you have to take the less conventional route.
Q6, When did you last have a haircut?
Attempting to trim my own bangs while leaning over the bathroom sink… last week. Otherwise, it’s been a minute.
Q7, What toy or game did you enjoy playing when you were younger?
Scrabble! I knew all the sketchy two-letter words and everything.
Q8, And, most importantly, what is your favourite type of cookie?
Chocolate chip baby!!!
Love this! Thanks Abigail. 😀
