June is National Indigenous History Month and June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. This is a time for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. One way to celebrate is by sharing their music and letting their voices be heard.
This year, National Indigenous History Month is dedicated to the missing children, the families left behind and the survivors of residential schools. Start your learning journey here to help you mark this important month and National Indigenous Peoples Day by exploring more about the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
While we are learning more of the stories of atrocities of those residential schools, there is much we don’t know still. Let’s open our ears and our hearts to these stories and then find ways to be part of the change. But first let’s take a listen to what some of our Canadian Indigenous artist have to tell us through music.
And a bonus playlist this week for Father’s Day as well. Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there!
Good morning!
