“Catching Up With You” is probably the angriest song I’ve ever written. I was thinking of the kind of person that gets away with mistreating and harming others just because of wealth or undeserved status.

I’m an optimist, but part of that means acknowledging that there is evil in the world instead of ignoring it. I also think, perhaps naively, these people will eventually deal with the consequences of their actions.

It’s from my new EP, Avoid Discipline, a title that might seem to eschew focus or hard work, but is more about letting go of perfectionism to allow things to take shape naturally. I went so far off the deep end with planning out my ideas that it was completely unhelpful in the long run because I’d never be satisfied with anything I did. As soon as I changed my creative mentality to go with the flow instead of trying to get things exactly right, I found myself enjoying the process so much more, and in turn, my ability to actualize the ideas in my head got a lot stronger.
