This week the playlist is the Newfoundland and Labrador Notes and Laments. Our cross country journey we have been taking, ends on The Rock. I have enjoyed our journey. We last visited the province on April 21, 2017.
Newfoundland and Labrador is an Atlantic Canadian province with a folk musical heritage based on the Irish, English and Cornish traditions that were brought to its shores centuries ago. Though similar in its Celtic influence to neighbouring Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador music is more Irish than Scottish and has more elements imported from English and Cornish music than those provinces. Newfoundland music, while clearly Celtic and seafaring in its orientation, has an identifiable style of its own. Much of the region’s music focuses on the strong seafaring tradition in the area, and includes sea shanties and other sailing songs. Modern traditional musicians include Great Big Sea, The Ennis Sisters and Ron Hynes. (Source: Wikipedia)
The playlist will concentrate more on the indie music coming out of the province. It has been quite a trip. Thanks for joining me on it.
Good day!
