Hi Our Basement,
“Love And Be Loved” is my enchanting, new single from my EP of the same name. I pictured this song to be that moment in a movie where a couple meets and it’s that fairytale moment.

The door swung open, that’s when our hearts met

I wrote this song out of my feeling of gratitude. I was looking out my bedroom window on a beautiful summer day, with no clouds in sight and a bright blue sky. I was sitting in front of the keyboard that was gifted to me by my partner, and it occurred to me: how wonderful it was to love and be loved. I had just started to teach myself some piano chords and was having a great time getting lost in the moment. Before I knew it, I had a melody.

How wonderful it is to give love and feel it in return.

For the EP, Love And Be Loved, there were a lot of full takes and singing right through the songs. We recorded the songs “Scars and All” and ‘People Like You,” with my acoustic guitar and vocals together. My producer, Colin Cripps (guitarist of Blue Rodeo) wanted to capture that emotive energy I get when I perform live on stage.
