Hey Our Basement,
“Conductor,” the second single from my band, Victory Chimes’ upcoming album, When the Fog Rolls In (set for release on May 20th) was written in a small studio room with only a grand piano at the base of Sleeping Buffalo Mountain at the Banff Centre of the Arts.
The backdrop of this track was inspired by the immense and powerful landscape of the Rocky Mountains, where the earth meets the heavens.
The main character who features in “Conductor” believes that they occupy and control this realm, making ridiculous claims—a personification of some of the modern egoism we’ve seen lately in politics and culture.
At the end of the song there comes a twist, when we find out that our character is an only child caught up in an absurd fantasy.
And I woke up in my little cape, my wizard hat all crumpled in the snow
The world just stepped over me and the wind blew until my footprints didn’t show.
Thanks for your time,
Jeff Louch of Victory Chimes
