Hello Our Basement,
It can be so easy to lose sight of what really matters in life when you’re focused on pleasing everyone else, living in the moment too much, or constantly chasing temptation.
Our new track, “Kip City,” was borne out of reflecting on those themes.
Kip City is a dirty, run-down town full of good times and empty promises. Similar to the island in Pinocchio where the boys turn into donkeys, it may initially look tempting but it comes at a price.
The main character in this song has spent so much time living in the moment that she has no connections and no ‘home.’ That longing to go home has left her frozen in time.
Time seems to fly by faster every year, yet ironically, it almost grinds to a halt when you want it to go faster
We took a reflective but fun approach to this song. The song’s heart and soul really come from the collaborative nature of how it was written. It creates a world and narrative that you can use to envision your own “Kip City.”
Thanks for listening,
