Celebrate Saskatchewan’s Musical Talent with This Week’s Playlist! 🎶

This week, OurBasement is tuning into the incredible sounds of Saskatchewan as we spotlight the nominees for the 2025 Saskatchewan Music Awards (SMAs). Saskatchewan has long been home to a thriving and diverse music scene, and this playlist is a sample of the talent the province is sharing with the world. From indie rock and folk to hip-hop and beyond, these artists are putting Saskatchewan on the musical map.

The Saskatchewan Music Awards: Honouring Excellence

The seventh annual Saskatchewan Music Awards will celebrate the incredible achievements of artists and industry professionals from across the province. With nominees in 21 categories, the SMAs recognize everything from Album of the Year to Industry Achievement, shining a light on the diversity and creativity that defines Saskatchewan’s music scene.

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Regina Performing Arts Centre in Regina. It’s going to be a night of celebration and live performances, showcasing the province’s musical talent in a variety of styles. Keep an eye out for the performer lineup, which will be announced starting next week!

Cast Your Vote for Your Favourites

The SMAs invite the public to help decide winners in four special categories:

  • Album of the Year
  • Industry Achievement
  • Music Company or Organization of the Year
  • Venue or Festival of the Year

Voting is open from January 2 until 10pm CST on January 31 at www.saskmusicawards.com. One vote per person/IP address is allowed during the voting period, so be sure to have your say and support your favorite nominees!

Celebrating Community and Achievements

SaskMusic Executive Director Lorena Kelly highlights the importance of the event:

The Saskatchewan Music Awards serve as a platform to amplify our province’s exceptional talent both locally and internationally. This event also provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate their outstanding achievements. We eagerly look forward to welcoming everyone to the awards show!”

This year, we are also celebrating Erroll Kinistino, recipient of the Indigenous Music Achievement Award. Kinistino, from the Ochapowace First Nation, is an actor, drama instructor, director, writer, and singer, and has become a respected and inspirational figure throughout Saskatchewan.
