It all began on a September day in 2016, with a single Canadian Indie song that set the wheels of creativity in motion. A simple word in its title led to another song, and then another, sparking a musical journey through the rich tapestry of Canadian Indie tunes. The playlist grew organically, with contributions and suggestions from music enthusiasts like you. This auditory adventure continued over the span of a year and a half, with intermittent revisits, each track connecting seamlessly to the next. On a crisp January day in 2018, the journey paused, leaving us on the evocative notes of “Game Shows” by Plants and Animals.

Then, on a transformative April day in 2021, a new chapter unfolded. Starting with “Game Shows,” the playlist embarked on a fresh voyage, weaving its way through melodies and emotions, echoing the essence of Canadian Indie music. More additions to the stream followed, each a musical odyssey of its own, carrying the torch of creativity and connection. “My World’s Getting Smaller” by Bobby Dove marked the poignant conclusion of this chapter. On October 15, 2021, another stream emerged, carrying the musical thread from the past into the present. The journey ventured through the soundscape, echoing the artistic souls that define the Canadian Indie scene. “Big Lies” by Alex Little and The Suspicious Minds became the beacon that guided us through this chapter’s end.

The next stream on March 18, 2022 began with that track and ended on “Faith is Easy” by Debra-Jean Creelman and Molly Guldemond.  On May 27, 2022, the playlist flowed, capturing the nuances of human experience, and culminated with the resounding echoes of “Whatever Keeps You Going” by Donovan Woods. The following playlist on August 25, 2023 began with that track and meandered through songs, each a chapter in its own right, until it found its end on the compelling notes of “Dirk Gently (Know Yourself)” by JayWood. Today, for the Stream of Consciousness July/2024, we begin with that track and continue on through “The Dreamer Knows” by ROY, “Dreamer” by Jenn Grant, “Evening Dream” by Moe Kenney, and onward until we end with “History in Motion” by Kaia Kater and “motion of the moon” by shy kids. The tracks in this week’s playlist are predominantly songs released in the past year, with a few older tracks included to keep the stream going.

As you dive into the melodies and stories woven into this eclectic tapestry of sound, we invite you to be part of the journey. Perhaps you’ll discover a song with “moon” in the title, creating yet another link in the stream of consciousness that unites us through the magic of music.
